Best phone ever

I was searching for my first smart phone for at least six months, and my final decision is HTC Desire. After I bought it, it didn't let me down. I really enjoy using it. Maybe it might not be the best phone for all the people, but it's the best phone for me. :)Read full review...

This phone is awsome it beats the iphone 3 hands down and there are now more than enough free android apps to keep most people happy, the only issue I have is the battery needs charging daily but I would still recomend this phone.Read full review...

HTC Desire

Delighted with my 1st smartphone - a gizmo I had imagined for years - I've had 2 ipaq hand helds with gps [with a dire battery life which eventually dies completely...and takes tom tom maps along with it].I always had to have 3 pieces of kit plus chargers in my bag. I now have my music, gps, phone and internet access as well as a camera in one piece of kit. Joy. I am still discovering what it is capable of so far it is fast gives speedy access to the internet, holds my music and has a clear and v sensitive screen. [I have upgraded to a 16gb memory card.]It works fine as a phoneas it should.

The one I bought via ebay was an 'unwanted upgrade' and is the orange model which I do curse a bit as orange always pops up. [I looked into 'rooting' it but decided I'm not enough of a techie to risk that and now wish I'd gone for a sim free unlocked model - there were plenty available but as I already had an orange contract...and it is matte black which I like [hmm - but with a little orange square on the back.]It is neat and not too bulky - smaller than an iphone

The battery life is an issue, as most buyers mentioned, but I can now get 2-3 days per charge depending on use. I did the [thanks to another user] recommended overnight charge before starting. I read a lot of reviews of my prospective buys and got tips such as remembering to turn off gps and blue tooth when not in use. I do leave it -so far- entirely on 2G using wifi to access the internet and would definitely recommend this for setting up because it is quicker [it tells you that when downloading]and cheaper/free-ish if you already have wifi access - and lots of public places do now too.

The set-up was so easy it was a joy to watch as it rattled through my contacts, made links with my e-mail directory and facebook. Orange does seem to intervene with email messages which I'm sure isn't necessary - but not annoying enough for me to try to tackle it -yet. I've just got firefox sync -beta- which was great as I saw instantly where I'd last been searching on the desktop and everything from other computers was there BUT it seems to have reduced them to the lowest common denominator/simplest so I suddenly lost a great chunk of my contacts. Beware.

I'm pleased with the camera, which wasn't a high priority - definitely less digital lag than the sony ericsson this replaces. Also happy with the selection of apps from market but those I've chosen are pretty utilitarian: BBC news, newspapers, google earth, the sky at night, bar code rea - no games. Nor am I comparing it with an i-phone or former smartphone.

I've barely experimented with the gps though it did an instant picture of the outside of our v rural house-really impressive. [I gather that orange 3G have their own maps which requires 2 sattelite accesses to give directions which slows it down] I was also told that £50 will download an all time edition of European maps - again can't comment, but I have downloaded the free googlemaps available from market, which showed where I was walking in fields. The voice is robotic -not the polite and well spoken Tom Tom woman. My son's Desire was used in the car - he's a gps sceptic, with excellent map reading skills, and he was impressed with the result - especially as we were in the Lake District among the mountains at the time. It certainly did the job.

I have dithered between excellent and good. Maybe that's down to orange. It is a very good phone with which I'm delighted.

HTC Desire Mobile Phone

I bought this phone for my Grandson so I can only give a review on his opinion. All I know is that he was delighted with it. Everything he has said about it as been positive and as never said he dislikes anything about it.Read full review...
