Better than Iphone

Love the phone all around but hate the brown colour version so I got the white, whih looks beatiful.

The only problem is the loudspeaker which is not very clear.

*Superb.....but still room for improvement*4/5 for now*

Hi my name’s Andrew,
I don't usually do these sort of things, writing reviews that is, but I have been so impressed with this phone. I've put a summary of details first, and then a more detailed analysis.

Special Features
**MULTI-TASKING** The major plus point over it's main competitor the iPhone
Automatically lowers the ringer volume as soon as the phone is picked up
Mutes the ringer when the phone is flipped face down
Backs up certain data and settings to the microSD card automatically, such as SMS/MMS messages, bookmarks, Wi-Fi passwords, and more

VOTED THE BEST CURRENT MOBILE PHONE IN THE WORLD BY TechRadar (iPhone 3GS was 2nd)

Things I Love/Pros:
3.7-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen (looks absolutely stunning, great for watching movies and is also very responsive)
Contacts social integration (each contact can include; phone, email, home/work address, facebook, twitter and much more)
Weather widgets (clouds spread across screen when it's cloudy, raindrops are cleared off the screen by a windscreen wiper when it's raining!)
Free SatNav with Google Maps (only available on phones operating Android)
Customisation (7 home screens and hundreds of widgets/shortcuts)

Niggles/Cons:
No apps to SD card (may be overcome with future Android update)
Having to press power button at the top of the phone to wake screen (fixed with apps from Market or future updates)
No hot swapping of memory cards i.e. swapping cards without turning phone off)
**********************************************************************************

Now, if you're reading this section, then you've probably already decided you want this phone, but just need a little encouragement to go out and buy it.

Messaging
Full QWERTY keyboard at your fingertips, and even if you do type in the wrong word it has an uncanny ability to know what you were trying to type and enters it for you!

Internet
In my opinion the Desire is one of, if not the best phone on the market for web browsing. You can have 4 pages/windows open at once, flash, bookmarks, history plus much more. It's basically the same as browsing from a laptop/PC, which is just what you want.
The text reflow is incredible and makes reading web pages effortless (text reflow is when you zoom in, the text automatically adjusts to fit your screen, therefore removing the need to scroll from left to right to left all day to read the page).
The phone also supports flash and can therefore load videos and other web content that other phones can't (although a bit hit and miss at the moment which should be fixed with the next Android update)

Camera
5MP camera with LED flash is more than adequate for a phone. Video capture is also better than expected and future Android updates are expected to improve it further, possibly even to HD

Applications
Although the app Market is not as big as Apple’s, you have to remember that it is still in its infancy. Having said that, there are plenty of apps to keep you busy and with the possibility of apps to SD card in the future it means larger and better apps will become available.
One thing it does have over Apple is the 24 hour refund policy. When you buy an app, you can simply refund it within 24 hours if you don’t like it (applies once per app)

Summary:
I've had the phone for just over 4 weeks now and it seems every day I am finding something new. It does everything an iPhone can and costs much less, so seems a no brainer really. I also forget to mention this thing can make calls too!

iPhone & Galaxy S - not in the same league!

Whilst the iPhone might feel better in your hand and have more 'street cred' amongst the younger generation; the Galaxy S is much lighter, thinner, and more appealing to your eye … the HTC Desire HD in my opinion wins hands-down every time when it comes to build quality, performance and usability. The fast processor ensures that all screens change effortlessly, the menus are easy to access and open quickly, and the camera is 1st class in both picture mode & video mode. The images are crystal clear, easy to preview or delete, and zoom-able once they’ve been saved. I use Wi-Fi all the time in my work and my saved hot-spots connect effortlessly every time. The same goes for my Bluetooth hands-free kit. All other features work well on my phone and it does everything it says in the manual. As with all other high-end smartphones the battery life could be better, and needs charging every other day. I understand a higher rated replacement battery is already being planned for this, and the next model, so at least HTC are listening to our comments. The only real negative point, as far as I am concerned, is the fact that the speakerphone is very very poor. Yes I know you are supposed to use headphones when listening to music (and I also know that the sound when using the Dolby system is 1st class) but after having a Sony Ericsson W995 ‘walkman phone’ I’ve sort of got used to hearing good quality sound through an onboard speaker, and I really miss that. Downloaded ringtones and music that I’ve used many times on all of my other phones sound really tinny when played through the onboard speaker and the sound effects (that are available when using headphones) are not available when using the speakerphone. Despite this minor irritation, I would till rate the HTC Desire HD at 9/10.Read full review...

HTC DESIRE FEEDBACK

THIS HAS TO BE IN MY OPINION ONE OF THE BEST PHONES ON THE MARKET WITHOUT A DOUBT,FAR MORE FLEXIBLE THAN THE IPHONE BY FAR.

by

HTC Desire

I have wanted to upgrade to a smart phone for a while and deliberated between an I phone and 'something else'.
Looking into the market the Android operating system, being owned by Google has as much support as the Apple system and therefore I didn't have too many worries about back up. The list of phones using this system is growing and therefore the choice of manufacturer and type of phone isn't limited to just one type, ie the I phone.
I was going to go for the HTC Hero but feeling the weight and the lower speed of the processor made my plump up the extra for the Desire. I'm glad I did! The phone's interface is really nice, swift and clear. Much ike the I phone. The quality is really nice with a soft feel to the case. The I phone does however have the edge on a quality feel but this may be because it feels more as if it is machined than the 'organic' feel of the Desire.
Battery life is very good as long as you use all of the power saving facilities, eg turn off GPS wen not in use and wifi etc. Talking of the GPS this didn't work so well in Italy this year but seems fine in the UK. This may be due to Google Maps though so I will reserve judgement on it. :)
One aspect that is a disappointment is that the Android system is no yet compatible wit BBC i Player although I understand that this is being rolled out before the end of this year. This is not really an issue with the phone though and as mentioned above I have every confidence in the Android system.
There are loads of mini Apps for the phone as well, I just choose the free ones which have proved very stable.
Overall I am VERY pleased with this phone. However, DO NOT buy ANY phone like this, iPhone or otherwise, unless you are prepared to learn about how it works etc, they do require some setting up. If all you want is a 'Phone' get something else.
Highly recomended piece of kit.
