This movie is a fictional representation of Dashiell Hammett's post detective mystery writing life. Hammett's detective characters mirrored his physical and I would say a hoped for ideal version of his personality. The quirks that marked Sam Spade, Nick Charles, et al, are available in this movie, the setting of Chinatown squalor not withstanding. The movie is slow paced and dark, but if you have ever read the 'Thin Man' you will see a connection. You have to appreciate his characters and stories to like this movie. Read full review

Great film absolutely amazing.

I recommend this movie to anybody that appreciate the work of Dashiell Hammett.
It really captivates the writer in a different outlet and the actors in this movie are talented as well.
