great product

I bought this along with some other modified cases and the first time using it was impressed on how simple it is to use. Found out that my oal in my tikka was .017" shorter than the max oal that the hornady book stated, now I know exactly where to seat that bullet in that gun. I would recomend also the lock-n-load bullet comparator set to get the most accurate use of this tool because almost all bullets vary a few thousandths in length but the ogive of the bullet is allways a more accurate reading. Hands down for hornady for making reloading even easier.Read full review

hornady not worth a crap

very low quality. got my modifed case and was walking to the shop and stumbled droped it. hit the gravel drive way. it broke at the threads. really hit gravel and grass from 2 1/2 3 feet and snap.and i got a hornady headspace kit and its off 2 to 3 hundred of a inch compared to the rcbs i had get when i found out these off by this much. when your shooting 5 600m makes a large difference. bottom line dont buy cheap crapRead full review

Good system for measuring distance to the lands to seat the bullet on reloading

If you reload and are into a more precision type load the distance to the lands is critical for seating the bullet. Some makes like to be jammed and some like a jump of anywhere from .010 to .060">This tool will allow you (with some practice) to estimate the jump to the lands in your barrel.Read full review

Excellent Tool!

In combination with the "modified case", this tool allows one to determine the distance "jump" of desired projectile to rifling leads. The tool is accurate with any profile projectile and is repeatable.
This is one of the critical measurements needed to create the most accurate, lowest Standard Deviation hand-crafted ammunition.
Excellent and easy to use tool.

Thanks Hornady!

Takes the guess work out.

Yet another Hornady quality reloading tool. You can be confident of the proper measurement to your lands. It is very easy to use and very accurate. Would recommend to any hand loader.

Great tool to increase accuracy.

Within minutes of owning the Hornady overall length gauge and modified case I was able to figure out why my savage rifle grouped so pourly, despite using match grade ammunition. It took just 2 minutes to measure a factory round with my hornady comparator and dial caliper; and then to measure the overall length round with the match grade projectile. I found the match grade round to have nearly 1/4" of jump difference instead of thousandths of an inch.Read full review

GREAT TOOL FOR THE RELOADER.

EASY TO BREAK THREADED PORTION OF GUIDE ROD IF YOU WIGGLE IT TO MUCH WHILE REMOVING IT FROM CHAMBER. "BROKE TWO". I ALSO HAD ONE STICK IN CHAMBER AND BROKE IT TRYING TO GET IT OUT. OVER ALL A PRECISE WAY TO DETERMINE OVERALL LENGTH OF CHAMBER AND SET YOUR BULLET OFF OF RIFLING.Read full review

Good, but could be better.

Nice idea and design. Works as intended for the most part. My only complaint is that the center rod is plastic, so you need to be cautious of not overtightening the thumb screw, as you will then dimple the rod, which will then make it likely to seat back into a previous position. For the price, the center rod should have been aluminum, like the outer housing.Read full review
