Great looking train with exelent detail.
I purchased this for my grandson who loves steam trains. This is a Digital train with TTS Sound. The detail on the train is excellent and the quality of the TSS sound is good.
If you are a model railway buff, you will know all about setting up and tweaking the CVs!!!!! that volumes of the individual sounds, setting up the acceleration and deceleration of the train, to you and me. Not a clue.
However, depending on your Digital Controller (we have a Hornby Select), then I recommend you check out the online videos, which walks you through the various operations.

Lacks refinement
The overall finish and detailing is not as sharp as the old Hornby models. I have an old Hornby Nigel Gresley side by side to compare and the difference is apparent. For example the lettering on the tender is 2D rather than 3D, the cab controls are not painted and the overall blue colour is matt and lacking dynamism. The decoder has limited sounds and lacks refinement. It is too loud even at the lowest volume setting. Functionality is also limited. As compared with a Bachmann equivalent, there is no brake function (only an unrealistic sound), no flickering firebox, no heavy load function. On the plus side, it operates smoothly and well, with enough pulling power for a lengthy rake of coaches. I'd say good value for money only because I obtained it at a discounted price from the RRP and admittedly, Bachmann locos are more expensive. TTS sound system leaves a bit to be decided, timing the exhaust beat can,t be to get 4 exhaust sound per revolution of the drivers. Individual sounds volume on CV.s turn down.
