good for beginners

I bought this game simply because it has been in the market for a while and the price is fair. The most important reason is that I like sports games more than other genres of games.

As the critics mentioned on magzines, if you're looking for the exactly real golf experience on your psp, then Tiger Woods series may be better for you. However, if you just want to be relax, have a easy game to play, then that's it. HotShot is an easy game to learn and play in very short time, and it also provides gamers interesting features to change player's appearance and gears, which can be acquired when the player passes certain level of game.

It's interesting, though, but it's not as real as the other games. Therefore, I'd treat it as a leisure game as I want to be relax or kill time only, instead of challenging or taking a certain adventure.

A good taste of PSP Golf with Hot Shots

The PSP will get some smiles and happy faces when they see what a good game this is. It has such an atmosphere of fun and gives people a great basic experience of golf on the PSP. The game has a good set of character cast members. You can hit a slice, fade, hook, topspin shot and have control over it. You can go turbo like in this too. The upgrade feature of this game with your skills is good also and don't forget that all the clubs are good and the same for the other golfers too. It has the same set up of the other Hot Shot games in its how to swing and use power shots. this is a basic view of the golf games to come and the PSP will start out with a nice big grin.Read full review...

Hot Shots Golf Open Tee

This is one of the few solid PSP titles. Its a great game and very well adapted from the ps2. You start off at the same beginner level as everyone else that purchases it which makes it great for any level gamer since the games difficulty is built around player progression. With plenty of unlockables, you just might find yourself up at 3am trying to finish a match play course to get 1 more promotion star to rank and a few more points on your spin level.....besides how can you not love playing dress up with golf avatar, personally I find whacking a golf ball 310 yards with a giant frying pan rather enertaining.Read full review...

If you like HGS games then buy this if you own a PSP.

I bought this game because I wanted a new game to play on my PSP. I own Hot Shots golf 2 and Hot Shots golf Fore and I really enjoyed those games for the playstation 1 and 2. So I knew I had to get the PSP Hot Shots golf game. Since I recieved the game, I play it whenever I go on trips to the store or when I am at home.
Pros
One of the things I like about the game is how your characters stats improve the more you use him or her. I also like how you receive new clubs, clothing, balls, and other items after every tournament. I like the putting challenge mode in the game. It reminds me of the mini-golf in HGS-Fore.
Con
The only thing I wish the game had was the mini-golf mode. (AKA put-put golf)
It was fun trying to figure out ways to get the 50 points by hitting these insane shots around the put-put courses.
If you have played any other HGS game and really enjoyed it then this is a good purchase for the PSP.

I Bought A PSP Because I Wanted to Play Hot Shots Golf

It was sometime late in 2005 when my friend showed me his new toy... a PSP with Hot Shots Golf. He let me play it for a little while, and it was then that I decided... I had to have a PSP to play that addicting game!

HSG makes golf video games fun to the normal gamer! I've never played any sort of golf game before HSG, and I never thought I would enjoy playing one. But there's just a lot of little things which added up to one great game... that kept me coming back to play over and over again.

Graphics for this game are bright, colorful, and very aesthetic. This is not your typical Tiger Woods golf game, and it shows. From the opening video, HSG shows its intent and purpose: to be an extremely fun game to everyone. Courses are detailed, and vary greatly from each other in appearance. Characters have different apparel that they can wear, which players can unlock in different ways.

The sound in HSG is, well... playful. Music is upbeat, and adheres to the overall feel of the game. Sound effects are somewhat limited, although taunting in multiplayer games is hilarious and quite annoying to other people as well, I'm sure.

Gameplay is awesome in HSG! In an almost RPG style, you can unlock harder courses, better skills and equipment, which helps you to beat the harder tournaments and match plays. After awhile, the difficulty of this game gets quite high, and a player may find themselves having to repeat a tournament a few times before winning. And practice makes perfect, so it'll take awhile before you become worthy of the harder courses and challenges.

In addition to the normal gameplay, there is a putting mode, which you can unlock apparel from. Also, there are medals that you can receive for different achievements, such as a hole-in-one, or double eagle, or getting all items. These medals are very difficult to get, and allow for even more replayability.

In conclusion... Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee is an awesome game! Now that it's a greatest hit, and only costs $20, there's no reason for any type of gamer not to buy this one! Trust me... this one is worth it!

Just another game

The game play is great. Just like any other version of this game it really allows for a realistic feel of golf. The thing that I disliked is that it was probably a poor cross over from a foreign version. The names were way off. It was like the game just picked guy names even if the character playing was female. That was the worst thing about the game. Everything else about it seemed like a well organized game. The new method for obtaining items was interesting but a little annoying as well. So this game only received a good in my book.Read full review...

Like golf? Then this is the PSP golf game to get

I love my PSP, but rarely has a golf game on any console captured my attention like Hot Shots on the PSP. I was only slightly familiar about this title, but when I started checking it out further, I knew I had to get it. If you like REALISTIC golf however, you might not like this one at all and go for Tiger Woods.

This game has plenty of depth in ranking and additional equipment. In a way, it's a bit like an RPG. You get better gear, specialty trick shots, and you have the ability to open up new characters. It's great for quick 30 minute games as well as the long stretches where you need to kill time. The game play itself has a bit of your typical "arcadie" feel, but it still uses the standard "3 button press" power bar for your shots. When specialty shots are earned and then required, it starts to get a bit trickier and with the RPG elements built in, this is where the game really shines.

Multiplayer is available in ad-hoc mode. I think you can play tournaments online as well. I've had this title for about 2 months and it's my current go to game for the PSP. If you want to "kind of" get a general feel for the way this game plays before buying it, try Albatross 18 on the PC. It's free to install and play and I strongly suspect that Hot Shots inspired Albatross 18. Hot Shots has been a long standing golf series that has excelled on most systems. The PSP version is no different. Then if you like it, start looking for Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 for the PSP. That title was just released, so you likely won't find it for under $30. It's also known as "Minna no Golf Portable 2" in Japan or "Everybody's Golf 2" in the UK and AU.

Great and entertaining golf game

I have enjoyed the Hot Shots Golf series on the PS2 and knew that I had to get it for my PSP. I have not been disappointed. While HSG has a cartoon look to it the physics and strategy associated with it are pretty good. There are multiple characters with numerous outfits and acessories that they can be dressed in. There are 6 courses that can be unlocked. If you like golf I would recommend this entertaining game.Read full review...

Great game!! and I don't even play golf!

OK.. Here is another addictive game. It looks pretty boring at first..and could scare some away because some golf games in the past have gotten WAY to techincal to be fun... but this game is awesome. It has great levels, options to choose different wear and characters through-out the game, and will keep you entertained! It also has a few different game type plays so if you get tired of one... you can easily switch over. One draw back, like a few of the PSP games would be lack on true wireless interaction. I recommend!Read full review...

Hot Shots fans, rejoice! This game is fun!!

This game is incredible fun. If you loved the previous Hot Shots games found on the PS1 and PS2, then you will be right at home with this new version for the PSP. There are so many items and character to unlock that it will keep you occupied for a long, long time. The ability to play this game multiplayer via online or ad hoc mode is awesome! I am doing my best to get my friends to join up so we can try this out! The courses are challenging, the putting challenge is great for practicing your putt skills, and just being able to play Hot Shots anywhere I go is just an incredible feeling! One thing I disliked big time is they took away hotseat mode, so you are forced to play this with your friends ONLY if they have their own PSP and HSG game. It would've been perfect if we could play multiplayer hotseat mode with one PSP but I am guessing they made this decision to encourage players to buy the game.

All in all, this is my favorite golf game for any system and this PSP version is no exception.
