Clear pond water at the turn of a handle

This replaced a Hozelock 4500 that had given good service for 10 years. There were 2 big problems with the 4500
1. It tookm 15 messy m,inutes to clear the foams every few days, as you had to manually open up the filter, take out the foams one by one and squeeze all the muck out by hand. You got muck all over you as well as the time taken up
2. the lid was a real pain to fit back on with the clips often not seating. It could easily take another 5-10 mins of adjusting the head assembly before it would seat and allow the clips to be locked shut.

But at least if I did this I got relatively clear pond water.

When the head assembly cracked and replacements were no longer available I looked for a better replacement and ended up settling on this, albeit a little dubiously. I wasnlt sure it would keep the water clean and that the cleaning really would be effective. I really expected to have to strip the filter down every week to clean the sponges.

Well, it's been 3 weeks now and the water is spotlessly clear ( a lot clearer than with the old filter). But the best bit is the cleaning; it really IS as they say. After a few days with the water flow starting to slow a bit due to the muck clogging up the filters, it is just a case of
- turn the pump up
- rotate the handle several times one way then the other to squeeze the muck off the sponges
- click the divertor switch over and turn the pump back on
- rotate the handle round a few times, then the other way, and keep doing this until the outlet water runs clear (about 1 minute)
- turn the pump off, click the diverter switch back over and turn it back on.

It's really that easy - a messy fiddly job of anything up to 20 mins becomes a 2 minute breeze of a job and the water is clearer than before. I am definitely looking at replaceing my 9000 in the other pool with one of these soon !Read full review...
