Early Townes Van Zandt album

A good collection of Townes Van Zandt's earliest recordings. Tracks 1, 3 and 6 are particular highlights. 'Gypsy Friday' and 'Colorado Bound' are also very good. It also contains an early version of 'Big Country Blues' which (to my ears at least) is a little less polished than some of the later recordings, but that does add a certain appealing rawness. The last track, 'Black Crow Blues' is the hauntingly melancholic lament of a dying man, addressing a lover he knows will long outlive him.

The quality booklet contains full lyrics and some excellent photos of Townes.
