Whatever happened to a Royale with cheese?
Ah yes ... Pulp Fiction ... them were the days.
Inglumptuous Bataards or something like that. What a mess. Why doesn't the studio give me 50 million bucks and I'll make them a mess just as big. Disjointed film, silly chapter headings, camp German SS representation, nonsensical accent for Bradley (no wonder he can't bring home the Oscar).
You read the reviews about this piece and you think Tarantino is back ... I wish he would go away after wasting two hours of my time with this piece of schlock. This film is not fun nor interesting nor clever. It's not that violent and it doesn't qualify as entertainment. The Hitler role is just stupid. The casting must have been done by a blind person after a hard night on the booze. Don't believe me? Well if you must see it, then find out for yourself. But this movie is a drag. p.s. there must have been a special on with subtitles down at K-Mart because the German language comes on thick and fast in this one.Read full review...
Inglorious Basterds
I saw this movie at the cinema twice when it was released.
It is not a faithful recreation of the events of World War 2, but a fascinating story involving the main characters from that period. If you`re a war historian you will probably hate it for taking too many liberties with the facts. If however you like innovative film making you will love it.
Tarantino shows once again that when he is on form, nobody writes better dialogue than him. Some of the wordplay between the protagonists is the best I have heard on screen in years. It is very clever, with top notch performances from the cast, squeezing every bit of tension out of some truly memorable scenes.
Brad Pitt is a revelation in the film. It is easily the finest acting performance that he has ever put on film.
Christoph Waltz as Colonel Hans Landa gets my vote for an Oscar when the Academy Awards come around. He is evil personified in a role that deserves to be recognized by the various award ceremonies when they come to vote.
It is a war film unlike any I have seen before, there are no big battle scenes, but it will keep you on the edge of your seat for its duration.
It is certainly Tarantino`s finest hour as a director and I thoroughly recommend this film to movie lovers everywhere.Read full review...
Tarantino stumbles
Off-the-wall fantasy/black comedy from Quentin Tarantino turns WW2 history on its head and gives it a good shaking. But it's almost in vain. The film is too long, too disjointed and too talky - not to mention too silly. And people who don't like sub-titles will hate it. It boils down to a plot to wipe out the Nazi High Command while they are watching a movie. Yeah, right. Best things in it: The charming but deadly SS Colonel and the sight of Hitler guffawing to see allied troops killed by a German sniper. Worst thing in it: Brad Pitt, complete with silly accent, as a sort of Dirty Dozen leader.Read full review...
