Homeschooler writes novel

KUDOS to homeschool kids!We also love the fact that the author was in his teens and home schooled when he wrote this novel. If you have a boy that is into dragons be sure to buy the first and second book of the series. I struggle with buying it this year because it will leave you hanging because the third book is not yet in print and it is a bit awkward to go back and pick it up a year later. If you are trained to wait for Harry Potter then start buying the set right away. Be aware.

This is a well done story and you will find it gripping because of the connection to the boy and his Dragon. It is the classic American tale- orphan finds trauma or struggle and is forced to look at how he was raised versus the bad blood he has come from. Star Wars lovers will see a very similar theme in the bad guy of this series and it is the Star Wars saga with Dragons. Get it in hardcover because you will want to keep it and many schools are putting it on the recommended reading list for age 11-16. This is not a book for little-little kids. There is violence and gore- perfect for an older boy and great for parents who still read with older children.

Eragon

Eragon by teen author Christopher Paolini, the first book in the Inheritance Trilogy, tells an engaging tale of dragons, magic and adventure. The main character of this best selling fantasy book is Eragon, a 15-year-old farm boy in Alagaesia. When hunting in the Spine, a mountain range near his home village Carvahall, Eragon finds a blue stone that happens to be a dragon egg. After the egg hatches, Eragon raises the dragon secretly and names her Saphira. The evil Ra'zac sent by the King Galbatorix kills Eragon's uncle and destroys his home. Accompanied by old storyteller Brom, Eragon and his dragon sets out on a treacherous journey full of twists and turns. Toward the end of the story, Eragon the Dragon Rider, his newly made friend Murtagh, and Saphira arrive at Tronjheim, where the rebel force called the Varden is located. A big battle is fought in which Eragon helps defeat the enemies sent by the king. Likable protagonists and an interesting plot make it an entertaining book for both young adults and adults to read.Read full review...

a must read for any fan of this genre

A classic Lord of The Rings type setting with all the races recreated to Paolini's liking make for a unique and engrossing book. The mental and physical connection described between a Dragon and its Rider is unlike any I've ever seen before. The story maintains a feeling of believability throughout that I've never experienced in this Genre before. Character behavior and actions are believable. One of my favorite things was the way the magic works. Magic is not some limitless power where you can learn a few spells and cast them repeatedly with no regard becoming invincible to any non mage. Every spell cast uses physical energy making it possible to kill yourself with too many or too powerfull a spell. Even a DragonRider with all their skill and power can be killed as easy as anyone else if they let their guard down.Read full review...

Eragon Crazy!

I picked this book off of Ebay for my boyfriend. He loves this series very much. Everything he reads is mostly about dragons but this series by far is his favorite. We are very excited about the release of the third book in the inheritance triology and are also anxiously awaiting the release of the movie for the first book. We hope that there will be a movie for all three. If your looking for a great book in an amazing series, you'll definitely want to give this one a try. This wonderful young author has an incredible ability to capture audiances of many ages. Your sure to love it too!Read full review...

This was written by a 15 year old?!!?!!

This book is easily in the same category as Lord of the Rings. And to think that a 15 year old penned the tale! The story, which I am excited to learn will be a movie this holiday season, is complex, and the visuals created in the mind while reading, are fantastic. For those who have read it, who can forget the image of destruction and chaos of the village destroyed by the Urgals? While there are many foriegn words, and use of languages unknown to human minds, the characters and situations seem all too real. This epic story that spans a trio of yet unfinished books, will engage and enthrall old and young alike. I am an elementary school teacher, and my 5th graders hung on every word as I read aloud chapters to them throughout the year. If you are a fan of fantasy, and medieval adventures, then this is definitely the book for you.Read full review...

If you liked Lord of the Rings, then Eragon is a must!

I love to read a book that is full of action right from the start, and never lets up. Eragon is like that. It grabs you right from the first page, and you have to keep turning the pages to find out what is going to happen next, as there is one adventure after another. Next thing you know it is 3:00 in the morning and you have to get up up in 4 hours.... Very well written, very entertaining, quite engrossing, and extremely hard to put down.

Why I bought the book: I loved The Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the Harry Potter series. If you want a good book, and a lot of it, then with Eragon you have struck gold, it was a very good book and there was alot of it. And there are two more books in the series, which is a major plus.

I highly recommend this book for all ages, there is nothing inappropriate or offensive for any age. Just lots of action and adventure. However, there are some "big" words that might make it a little difficult to read for the younger readers.

The Best Book I've ever read...

Okay, I was thinking at first that I'm just not into dragons or fantasy stuff, so I'd hate this book. But I was BLOWN away! For a 15 year old author (at the time he wrote this), I could not be more impressed.

I read EVERY single word of this book V E R Y S L O W L Y so that it would last longer. Usually I finsih a book in a few hours. I wanted this one to last and last.

Very imaginative, great descriptions, excellent story and truly a marvel!

Suprising new talent...

Wow Christopher. Your parents must be so proud of you!! What a suprising new talent from such a young author. The book is a fast-paced fantasy that is enjoyable even for adults. My husband could not wait for me to finish reading it so he could take a turn. The book has everything: Dragons, elves, dwarves, an evil king, wizards, and magic of course. You want to root for Eragon as sets out on such a dangerous quest. The battle scene at the end is very suspenseful. I cannot wait to see the movie! *****5 starsRead full review...

what a fantastic book!!!

I absolutely loved this book. I have been looking for another set of books to get engrossed in, after closing out the Harry Potter series. I never dreamed that I could find another author with the same imagination and strength of characters that this book has...
I bought the book because some of my co-workers where talking about the movie (which I still have not seen yet) and I wanted to read the book. Then my son spoke highly of the book and I just had to read it...
Fantastic book!!!
I highly recommend to anyone who loves fantasy and dragons!!!

A good read.

I had been lent these books by a friend and loved them. The story is fast paced, with a wealth of good guys and bad guys. The detail and pace of the story had me skipping forward to find out more! I realized that I would need to read them again to get the full picture.
I can't wait till this young author finishes the last book as one is left hanging wanting to know how Eragon and his dragon will fair.
If you enjoyed Harry Potter this will be a must have set.
