Controlling an Engine Block Heater

Seems to be good quality. It was easy to set up once I got my head wrapped around the set-up concepts.

It is installed and ready for use but in my application it has not yet been "used." I want it to control an engine block heater in my truck. It is set to trigger ON when the outdoor temperature dips to 15°F or below, and trigger OFF when the outdoor temperature rises to 20°F or above. Set point is 20° and the heat differential is 5°. So it will trigger on at PV - HD (Process value or set point less Heating Differential or lower, then back OFF at PV or above. This will prevent rapid cycling as the outdoor temperature fluctuates. The heater cord is plugged into the "Heating" receptacle while the "cooling" receptacle is unused. Since being deployed the outdoor temperature has not yet dipped below 20°F. We shall see how well this works as the winter progresses.

If only easy to program

So there is no plug and play here. All goes well until you realize that if your router does not automatically work in 2.4mhz or has the capability of doing 2.4mhz this will not work. So if router only does 5.0 u are toast. So now there is a bit of configuration that has to be done to get 2.4 set up for it to communicate in/out to the App.
Am waiting until the weekend when I have time to mess with it and hope it works out. If not returning. Otherwise it’s just a really expensive yet accurate thermometer.

Good Product. Great Price.

Very reasonably priced. Lighter than the old, other brand product I used for five years. Way less costly. Digital instead of dial knob temp control. Easy to mount on the wall by my kegerator. Works like a charm keeping my modified chest freezer cycling on and off to keep my beer at 35-40 degrees. It displays current temp in the kegerator and the temp I've set it to keep. When the temp in the kegerator climbs 3 degrees about the set temperature, it turns on the chest freezer to cool it down again. Works great.Read full review

works well but instructions are not the best

works great once you can get it set....which admittedly was a bit difficult for me ....and yes I read the instructions. After following the instructions and getting to the end you have to hold the button for a few seconds. I didn't see that in the instructions and accordingly i thought the first one was malfunctioning so bought another and when it had issues I knew I had been missing something. That one step was missed...ugh!Read full review

Lost confidence in the product.

Had this a little over a year. It worked fine within a first few months then it over- heated my tank a couple times. Th he alarm worked a few times but then I couldn’t get it to turn without having to unplugged it.Now I cant get the temp set without the alarm going offeven though the water temp is below the parameters.Currently not using at all. Love it

Its easy to use once you understand the 2 letter symbols and what they're for. I have 2 of these now, one for beer brewing and one to replace a broken thermostat on a really old deep freezer.

Excellent for generator oil warm up in winter.

I purchased one last year to install into Generac oil heating circuit. I made the mistake of putting it inside the cabinet and after a 50 + hour run this summer, I found it didn't do well from the engine heat. I'm installing this one outside the cabinet inside an electrical connection box with gasketed lid. Should last for years. Very easy to set up, calibrate, and operate. set it and forget it.Read full review

#4,love these things!

I have these on my chest freezers, takes a cheap freezers and allows my temps from 0 to 3F,worth their weight in gold.I just ordered another to run a waterbed heater under my solar power LifePo4 batteries.

Will set temp to 37F to 41f to protect them.OT,dont buy those without heaters,1 cold snap and you can lose them

It is a bargain

It is hard to imagine a better bargain for process control. I have been using PID controllers for years and for most applications, you don't need proportional control. My typical PID with SSR control costs about $300.

This is a less sophisticated controller and is a typical bang-bang controller. The control is referenced for cooling which means if you want to turn on a heater you set the heater turn off temperature in the set point and the heater turn on point in the hysteresis band. For example, I am using this for my green house where I turn on lights to keep the plants warm. The set point is 42F. At temperatures above 42, the heater is off. The hysteresis band is 2 degrees. Therefore, the lights turn on at 40F.

The quality is very good too. For home projects like green house heaters, this is the ticket!
