Good value upgrade if at right price
This is a great processor still very capable years later comparable to current generation budget Ryzen 5. But beware of greedy sellers trying to sell both old Core i7 and that generation of laptops at rip-off prices. Any price far above £60 for a CPU and over £150 for that generation of laptop is questionable if you are getting value for money. There are frequent failures such as snapping hinges, plastics that are often the quality of Chinese toys and batteries that probably need replacing with Chinese ones. You are better off getting a budget Ryzen 5 laptop at around £450 if your laptops and upgrades are too close to £300 especially considering there will inevitably be better graphics in the newer generation laptops. But if you already have the laptop with the upgradeable socket and compatible BIOS this CPU will work superb in conjunction with SSDs or SSD caching as a minimum.Read full review

Very fast processor. Good upgrade from a dual core.
Great CPU. It has boosted the speed of my 9 year old laptop significantly. I upgraded to this CPU from the i5-2450M. Also it is very fast compared to my previous dual core CPU. Even with the higher power requirement of this CPU (TDP 45W compared to my previous CPU with a TDP of 35W) it has not really affected battery life. I am very happy. Works fine in my ThinkPad T520
The new processor works just fine in my Lenovo Thinpkpad T520, replacing the previous factory-installed i5 2520M. Both performance and, interestingly, thermal performance, seem to be noticeable better.
A single work of caution related to the T520, not the processor - watch the markings next to the processor socket screw! There is a little dot that needs to point to either the open or closed label, or else the processor pins would not properly engage! :)Read full review
