Excellent value upgrade for older Core 2 Duo laptops

If you have a laptop with a socket P merom processor, this will probably be a good upgrade. I upgraded from a Core 2 Duo T7250 in a Dell Inspiron 1520 and get a nice 50% performance improvement, which is quite noticeable, and makes the laptop perfectly useable for modern web browsing, video playing and office applications. (Windows 10 x64 pro, 4GB Ram, 320GB 5400 rpm hard disk) In fact if I add a solid state drive I can use this laptop for a few more years. Note however that it is non-trivial to replace the old cpu, watch a video on youtube to see if you will be comfortable, and don't forget the thermal paste, this cpu runs quite hot (it was the top of the range Core 2 Duo merom processor at the time with 2.6Ghz clock speed)

(btw, a slightly faster option is a T9500, but these are at least twice the price on ebay, the T7800 is better value)

Unsuccessful Gamble

I bought this in hopes of installing it in my Acer Extensa 4620. It didn't fit. I plan to try it sometime in a Dell Latitude D630. Hard to find specifically what will or won't work.

Upgrading the HP Compaq 910 Laptop

Firstly, the processor really outperforms the default installed Intel T5870 in the HP Compaq 610 laptop. Delivering 600 MHz (per core) more & doubling the L2 cache size (4 MB 16-way vs. 2 MB 8-way set associative shared) it is a really great substitute for the before-mentioned laptop.

Secondly, an Intel T9500 would be even a greater upgrade, however the 6 MB L2 cache wouldn't probably bring that much performance boost overall. The Intel T7800 is also a cheap buy (at the moment) for a good long-term investment in the given laptop. Boot time is faster (especially when used in conjunction with a modern SSD HDD), games play better, video conversion is smooth, etc.

Thirdly, having the same power consumption as the default one (35 W), it also does not stress the motherboard or other components in the laptop.

In conclusion, the Intel T7800 Core 2 Duo Mobile is a great replacement for the initially shipped & installed processor in the HP Compaq 610 laptop. Bringing about 30 % more processing power (per core), doubling the L2 cache size, while still keeping the "green" label of producing a maximum of 35 W as his predecessor. For a small investment into this laptop, one gains much in all areas of use.

Excellent value

Im using this in my 11 year old dell d630. This processor is fast and can help your computer keep up with newer machines. It runs cool (35 C) when doing basic tasks and a bit warmer (40 C) when web browsing. This allows me to keep my fan off most of the time. For the price it is a good value buy, and I would especially recommend a ram upgrade to go with it. If you're looking for a lightweight os to run with your aging laptop, I found that Lubuntu works well with this processor, it finds the proprietary intel drivers easily.Read full review

Great upgrade for old laptop

Made my old dell feel a lot faster (went from 2.0ghz to 2.6ghz), web browsing and video streaming is much smoother. Fantastic for the price. Combine this upgrade with an SSD and your laptop will feel brand new.Read full review

Updated ancient laptop with T7800 processor and 6 GB of Ram. Goes like a rocket now.

i replaced the slow CPU of my Lenovo Thinkpad T61 with a new/old processor and doubled the Ram. All I need do now is update the Bios, though the thing works fine as it is.

Intel T7800

Many older laptop computers can be upgraded to a 2.6 GHz Intel Dual-Core processor on an 800hz bus economically with a T7800. Remember to check your laptop's bus speed before buying an upgrade.

CPU upgrade

Moving from 1.6GHz to 2.6GHz revive my old good Dell Latitude D630. Programs are running smoother and the cooling fan rarely turns on. Good choice.

Intel Xeon E5-2696 V2 with 12 Cores works great!

I purchased two of these Intel Xeon E5-2696 V2 and they shipped on time and work very well with my X79 motherboards. The chips were packaged well and came with thermal past. I would recommend these to someone looking for an old Intel E5 V2 series CPU with 12 cores. Read full review

Excellent product at a very reasonable price

Great product. Does everything I expected it to do. Made my computer, which was basically junk, usable and much faster than it was previously. I'm very pleased.
