Good quality sound with good volume

I bought this after trying many different DAB radios to replace my 30 year old, portable, manual tune FM stereo radio/cassette player which was still going strong and sounding great!
The problem was my new neighbour installed a load of cheap, poor quality LED lights that interfere with FM reception and make it unlistenable. Only by experimenting with DAB positioned away from the cheap LED's did I find the solution. Then I had to find a DAB radio that did what I wanted it to do i.e. simple to use with good volume (DAB transmissions are not as loud as FM for some reason?) . GOOD POINTS: Good sound with decent volume (for a DAB! although not as loud as my old radio!) Seperate bass, tone and balance (quite unusual) Seperate speakers that you can move as close or as far apart as you like (if you add extra speaker wire) BAD POINTS: Quite complicated and not intuitive to use, with some functions only available via the remote (presets and more) which once lost or broken will mean you are stuffed! The machine, like a lot of modern 'stuff' does not come on instantly ,but takes about 10 seconds to work once turned on .this is impossible if like me you have to 'mute' it when the phone rings!
I solved this by fitting one, 2 pole, inline on/off flick switch to one wire on each speaker so I could instantly turn the sound on and off at will without having to wait an age! I now just turn it ON once in the morning, then OFF when I go home. I dont think the on/off switch on the machine or the electronics would survive long otherwise. Finally, the reception is really difficult to get right indoors. Its very hit and miss with the crappy piece of wire supplied as an aerial, and even worse after I purchased a cheap, plug-in telescopic one. This issue was solved for me with a short, stubby 'mag mount, plonked EXTERNALLY on my metal worksop roof, with extension cable through a small hole to indoors. After all this I can listen to 'popmaster' again and 'serious jockin' in cristal clarity with decent volume. So all in all with some patience this is about as good as it gets for the price, but I would much rater live in simpler times with my old FM beatbox back! (I dont think this will still be going in 30 yrs time)

Great Value HiFi with 1 Issue...

For the money, it's a great HiFi with nice design and compact 2-way speakers. Sounds good, feature rich (CD, BT, USB, AUX, DAB Radio). Bluetooth 4.0 maintains a great connection with Android mobile and PC. However if you have a ton of tagged MP3 files like me, you'll be disappointed with the inability of the Hifi to read ID3 tags (v1.3 and v2.3) when playing from USB pen drive. Whether mine needed a software update I still haven't established as support is via Curry's (useless tech support) only, as JVC is exclusive to them.

Also beware that micro HiFi's are Bluetooth receivers NOT senders. So you can connect your phone, PC, etc, BUT NOT BT headphones.

Great little Hi-Fi unit - that requires a very good aerial!

I am extremely pleased with my JVC Hi-Fi unit. As it was refurbished I did not receive an instruction manual with it and I could not find one on line. However, the remote control is very simple and working out how to save presets and adjust the output was very easy. The sound from the speakers is very good but I slightly preferred the sound from my old Sony system so I am using those at the moment. It is very easy to switch between DAB/FM/AUX (it has 2 AUX inputs which is very useful). The wire antenna lead that comes with the unit wouldn't pick up anything on DAB although my old Sony was quite happy with a similar arrangement. However, I had an existing FM aerial on the roof so I re-routed the coaxial cable to where I am using the JVC then the much stronger signal was totally adequate for receiving all FM and DAB broadcasts in my area. A great all round little Hi-Fi unit and I recomment it.Read full review...

Excellent sound, great features & good price.

This hi-fi has an excellent sound, separate bass & treble controls that really make a difference to the sound, & it's powerful at 50w per channel. Surprisingly, it's actually 2 separate units, as the CD player/radio & amplifier are separate from each other & linked together via a flat cable that plugs into the backs of the units. The only things that could be better are the speakers, which tend to be a bit drum-heavy on some tracks- but these can be replaced with better ones, plus there is no bass boost button. But all in all this is a very good system for its price, & better than some more expensive systems.Read full review...

Super Mini Hi-Fi System - Small & Compact

This a well thought out budget Mini HiFi System. Good 50 Watts per Channel, Very Good Bass ( can adjust both bass and treble independently as well as pre-set Equalizers. The Bluetooth works absolutely fine with my Fusion iPad (have copies of all my music on) working range of the Remote Control is quite acceptable. The only downside to it, the aerial for DAB is poor, Bought a telescopic one for £4.25 with 'F' -Type Plug fitted and this works great. All in all for what I paid for it I cannot gumble one little bit.So yes I would highly recommend without hesitation.Read full review...

Pleased with purchase.

For the price the sound quality is reasonable. The unit easy to use and Bluetooth connecting to my phone very useful. It does the job I bought it for allowing my record deck to connect through RCA connections which are difficult to find on most units. Very pleasedRead full review...

Excellent sound system.

Excellent sound system. It`s compact enough to fit on tight spaces, the volume and depth of bass/treble is excellent and it has a good number of features. This was bought as a replacement for a previous Hitachi and the difference in quality is from chalk to cheese. Good competitive price too in todays market. Read full review...

Great Sound, but only after I ensured a longer speaker cable which gave a proper stereo effect. Easy to use although I still need to work out changing

Great Sound, but only after I ensured a longer speaker cable which gave a proper stereo effect. Easy to use although I still need to work out changing DAB stations. The main reason for purchase is playing CDs for which I have no issues.Read full review...

compact and powerful with easy to use features.

For it's size this unit put out a very good sound quality, and it is very suitable for an average sized room. I think that for the price you pay you won't find a better unit.

A great sound for such a small system

This system is good value for money. It has a variety of ways to listen to music and very good sound quality.
Negatives: sometimes jumps to the next track before finishing the previous one. Signal strength for bluetooth isn't too strong but that might be just local. Using USB it takes ages to read and then find tracks.Read full review...
