An insight into the spoiled lives of other victims of The Yorkshire Ripper.
With my roots and background connected to the area and events of the era I read this (along with the other books by Richard) with great interest. 'Enjoyed' doesn't seem quite right when reading of the awful tragedies and unpleasant events in Richards' harsh life and many of these are told of in heart wrenching detail, yet the dialogue and descriptives are very absorbing. Into the Light, Just a Boy and The Boy Grows Up are obviously all in the same vein and I found the last a bit 'repetitive' covering some events described in the others. One further tragedy involves Richards sisters 'eventual' suicide which took place after the books (although she'd attempted previously).
I was left with the feeling that My God, somehow Richard 'survived' it all. Damaged by 'The Yorkshire Ripper' Peter Sutcliffe and his own 'brutal' father but somehow he's survived.
I hope that he goes on doing so.
Recommended IF you can stand the 'pain' of a reading about a life blighted and see the hope.....Read full review...
