Great Synth

If you don't want to spend £800+ or need a compact synth, then buy one of these ! Not too small to be usable, and with the best touch keyboard I've ever used, this is great. A good battery usage life, or run it on a 9v power adaptor, a seemingly endless variation in sounds, it will give you stacks of uses in song composition recordings, I use mine in a home studio environment and space saving gadgets like this are ideal, lets face it, you're not going to put a synth on every song you create, so a synth that can be put away when it's not required is perfect.
For years I've always used FM synths, but I've always hankered for an analogue one, but I'm not a rich man and so buying this was the solution-the analogue sounds are so much closer to the original Moog sounds, I love it. The icing on the cake is that it has a Midi input socket, so I plug in my full size keys external Midi keyboard and hey, it performs like an £800 full size synth !!!

Korg Volca Keys

This looks at first sight an extremely simple (if not toy -like ) device, but as in many cases looks can be deceptive !When played through the built in speaker it can sound squeaky but the speaker does let you get a taste of it’s six different voice settings and it’s ability to record knob movements ! When it is played through a larger set of speakers it sounds more like the analog synth that it is ,maybe not true analog as all three oscillators use the same filter,envelope etc.It can be connected to midi via the top mounted socket allowing you to play three note chords a lot more easily than using the unit’s ribbon keyboard substituting it for an external midi controller,when in poly mode.The device’s midi socket also enables it to be used as part of a bigger setup as the last in a chain as it has no thru/out sockets (although I’ve seen some mods on e-bay ! )
Overall it has limitations but these force you to be creative and so far I’ve found the step-sequencer,the movement record,the different voiceings and the Volca Keys themselves to be thoroughly enjoyable.Read full review

This wee machine is class, sometimes totally unpredictable which can give good/ bad results which you can easily resolve with a reboot. Love it!!
