Great communications headset

I am a licensed amateur radio operator. My previous headset was from a manufacturer well known in the amateur community. I found the quality to be lacking and the headset very uncomfortable after wearing for a short period of time. When it literally fell apart on me, and I vowed never to spend that kind of money again on a headset.

Computer headsets are available at every electronics store, but I wanted a headset with a dynamic element. Most computer headsets come with an electret element, which is fine for computer work, but when used with amateur radio equipment, a bias voltage must be provided for the element to work. A dynamic element does not require this bias voltage, so in most cases, it is simple plug and play. Electret elements are also prone to causing RFI on your transmitted signal.

I use the Koss SB-40 headset with a Yaesu FT-2000 transceiver and constantly get unsolicited comments on my great audio. Comments such as "brilliant" and "amazing" are common from the stations I contact. I've used the headset with other radios and always got the same reports. The headset is very comfortable, and during contests I can wear it for hours on end without any discomfort. The cord is more than long enough to move around your operating desk without snagging.

I have nothing but praise for the Koss SB-40 headset. The in ear audio is great and the mic audio is fantastic.
