Does what it says on the tin

Bought this due to a case of necessity, my son wanted to buy me a disc for my birthday he asked his mother to get it for him, He is a broke ex-student! However his mother bought the correct title but picked a bluray copy not a DVD! I don't blame her, there is too much choice and now we have 4K too, when will it all end!! So I was going to take the disc back and change it, but by chance I was checking software updates for our Humax freeview and satellite boxes and discovered, in doing that I discovered the 'online' capabilities were to change due to providers changing the format of the rewind format of some systems! Sounds like gobbledygook? Too right! Again it's all too much and getting complicated! What it meant was we would not be able to watch certain 'iPlayers' via either of our set top boxes!! May be later on software upgrades but not guaranteed!! On further reading I found out what boxes would be compatible with the new system, this bluray player was in the list, our dvd player is a vhs/dvd combi unit, and whilst it works as it should, once in a while it is temperamental! Decision made! So bought this! As yet I've not used it except to check it works and show the wife how to use it! It all seems simple enough and the picture is great, far improved on the old sd dvd player. Wife has used it for her exercise dvds and says it is great as far as it goes, ie the picture is good as is the audio and operation. As yet I have still not seem my birthday present from my son, I'll get there though!! One criticism however, and it is why I said no regards design, and this applies to all 'set top' type boxes. Surely by now the manufacturers can make an add on piece of entertainment equipment that is a 'standard' size. Buy from one manufacturer and the chances are all their units will be the same or similar size, but it's not guaranteed! Buy a from a different source and the guarantee is that it will be a different size! All this means the stack of boxes you now need to watch or listen to the tv or audio, vhs,dvd, bluray or 4K (when it is available) are mismatched and look untidy as they are all different sizes, to the point where some will not sit on top of others!! Come on people, all audio units (HiFi etc) used to be the same size and could be 'mix n matched', why is that now not the case!Read full review

Excellent 4K up scaling from Blue Ray's

4k 3d blueray up scaler dvd player

The 4k 3d dvd player is up to any job. If it's just playing a normal dvd or blueray or 3d or up scaling to 3d from a blueray it handles everything thrown at it. Watching it through a 4k tv is very good.Read full review
