A Terrific movie!

The bond between Fire Fighters is like the bond between brothers. They become family. Their families and their lives become intertwined with their job. For these men it takes great courage and skill to perform their duties as a fire fighter. This is such a dangerous job, yet one they do not take lightly. They train and stick together to get the job done and done right. When people run from a burning building, these brave men (and women) run INTO the blaze to save anyone who may be trapped inside and to put the fire out as quickly as possible.
When one is hurt, they all feel it. The tears shed for a fellow fire fighter who gets burned while fighting a blaze makes this film pull at your heart strings. You will cry watching this movie!
In this film we watch Jack go from a being a newbie at the fire house to a man with as much experience as the most seasoned veteren there. When he becomes trapped in a fire, his "brothers" fight to get to him and bring him out alive.

Outstanding story and a very realistic view of life in a fire company !! From the firefighter's standpoint or from the family standpoint this is an accurate picture from humor to trauma to the bonding which occurs in the fire family.

Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta both provide excellent portraits of the rookie to the seasoned chief. The tension of dealing with the terrified and the traumatized and the relief of successful rescues are well done.

I train public safety personnel and I intend to use this movie as excellent training discussion material.Read full review...

ladder 49, what can i say? tremendous movie in all. very realistic and heart-warming. i believe its the best movie i've ever seen. i come from a family of firefighters and i know how the real deal is. by far my favorite movie and its great acting. it shows the hardships that a true firefighter goes through and the brotherhood of a true firefighter. by the end i'll be willing to bet that you cry, i know i did and i always do no matter how many times i watch it. all in all its a great movie.Read full review...

Ladder 49 - why you should buy it...

I love this movie. I decided to buy this movie because i am in the fire/ems myself and this movie touches the heart of us all.. It opens your heart and lets you see how close we all get because of what we see. It also shows anyone that is not in the fire and ems what we do in the 'job,' whether it's paid or volunteer. It also shows them that we too have personal lives and how we come together to deal with all things. There might be some arguments inside the department, yet, when it comes to helping them out if they are in danger we do so. If you want a true eye opener this is a great movie to buy.
