Fabulous read

Absolutely excellent read. The content is so interesting it is difficult to put down. It is the 6th book by this author, sadly no longer with us. Each has been written to take us back to the period which they cover. It’s like being there. I’m glad I’m not. Life was very different of course. The plot, or plots hold my attention and as I’ve said it is difficult to put down. Read full review

What might have been. Lamentation sums it up well.

This is the last of a 6 book series. If you are interested in Tudor England then you will be drawn in by the story lines based around actual characters of the time. I learned a great deal from the authors research much of which had never crossed my mind. Terrific reads I had to get them all.Read full review

An Excellent Read. A Fascinating look into Tudor Times.

Great Author. Great Story. Couldn't put the book down. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Lamentation is a must read for anyone who has read the others in the series.

Like the previous Matthew Shardlake stories, this one evokes the very frightening times of the late reign of king Henry the eighth. The fear is spread throughout England and to every level of society; from the queen to the lowliest of people, all live in fear of their religious beliefs becoming the cause of their death by hanging, or worse!

A most captivating story, written with the skill and historical knowledge only C. J. Sansom can muster.

Utterly brilliant

We had the series in paperback, this purchase to complete the set in hardback as it's a keeper. The books get better and better each time. It's well worth persevering with the first book. Why this isn't a major TV series I will never know.Read full review

Compelling Tudor Mysteries.

This is the 4th book in The Shardlake Mysteries by C.J.Sansom.Saying I couldn't put it down does not come near to how much I enjoy these books.I woke up at 3am one night & got up to finish the last 3 chapters of the previous book, I wanted to know what happened to Shardlake & his assistant Barak so much.Read full review

A really good read, unputdownable

This is a really good read and it is remarkable that a lot of things that happen in the book are reflected in today's society. E.g persecuting people for their beliefs if they don't agree with the mainstream government, in this case the King. In those days you were executed!

Best of the lot

Absolutely addicted to the Shardlake series of books but this was the best by far. Historical detail was superb, icing on the cake to a fantastic storyline. Please write some more Mr Sansom!
