Best Ludwig Strainer Ever!
The Ludwig P 85 strainer has been a standard for over 30 years. It was a great strainer but now the P 88 AC has finally gone one step further. All the things you never liked about the P85 are fixed with the new P 88. Diecast construction, super smooth to operate, just better all around. It’s tough to improve a great product but in this case Ludwig has done it.Read full review

Fits older Supraphonics, with a little work
Purchased this to replace the infamous P85 on a ‘71 Supra LM400. Huge upgrade from the stamped-steel original and totally worth the fifty bucks. Solid build, smooth action, and a much-improved adjustment knob. Those soft metal screws have been replaced with cast drum key nuts. Fitting the new throw off only required a little enlargement of the shell’s mount holes. The width of the butt plate’s mounts did not match the shell’s, but the plate has two small untapped holes that do. Tap the holes for 8-32, buy a few 3/8” pan head screws and you’re done. I wanted to use the rubber washers that insulate the plate from the outside of the shell, so I had to drill holes in those as well. Use the plastic spacers that come with the P88 kit for the inside of the shell. Read full review

Ludwig P-88 AC is fantastic! They got this one right! Thanks Ludwig!
If you are a drummer and have played an older Ludwig snare drum with either a P-83, P-85, or the newer P-86, you are familiar with the issues they all have. This new P-88AC strainer and butt plate blow them all away. These are cast metal units and are so much superior I wish they had a 6 star rating! Smooth, super easy to install without re-drilling, this thing is the best! Buy one and you'll see what I mean. I've replaced all of my older strainers with these...what a difference!Read full review

The best Throw Ludwig ever produced!
No pull on the tension knob in the snare position makes this Ludwig's best ever! A very smooth and easy to work throw, I love the raised points of contact on both the throw and the butt, much better than the P33 butt. Only change I would make his adding thicker nylon washers in the set, move to .125 thickness and tie us the added strength.Read full review

Awesome sauce of Ludwig strainer and butt-end combo
I like to have the combo of Ludwig style strainer and butt-end, with newer looking design! I used these old drums and them polish them, so the strainer combo are great. Special that they use Drum-keys, without Flat or Phillips screws, so its faster to tune drums.Read full review

Great strainer, but may need additional spacers.
This strainer is so much better than the P85, that the P85 should just be discontinued. It is a drop-in replacement for the P85. My only issue is that when used with some Ludwig shells with 10 or more lugs, the throw handle hits one of the lugs when activated. The fix is simple; a thin rubber washer, but I would have expected these spacers to either have been included, or the handle shaped to miss the lug in the first place. Read full review

Makes you Ludwig even more Classic!
This is a very nice easy upgrade to replace the Ludwig standard P-85 Strainer. It looks much better and it works much smoother and easier. Makes my 6 1/2 x 14 Classic Maple snare look custom. Highly recommend.Read full review

Ludwig P88AC snare throw off
Great product ! But if you have a 60’s or 1970’s ludwig supersonic, you have to make the existing holes a little bigger for the new screws to go through the shell. They do line up perfectly but the holes in the older super phonics are smaller. Just for. Heads up.... but it’s a great Throw offRead full review

Finally..A perfect throw off for Ludwig!
It's way overdue for Ludwig to finally come up with a solid strainer. I always thought the p85 was the achilles heel of Ludwig snares... I liked the older p83 better. The millennium is cool to look at, but not very user friendly. This p88 is perfect. smooth throw, and solid feeling. I will be changing out a few more snares with these for sure. Read full review

Make sure it fits your needs.
This was bought to replace the p85 on my 1976 Acrolite. The Butt plate had to be modified to fit. The strainer worked perfect with no problems. Would make sure the BP is specific to your needs or buyer will not be happy unless you have tools to work with to modify.Read full review
