Solved my problem in finishing an M1 Stock
Having a CMP M1 with the new, unfinished stock, I wanted to coat it with boiled linseed oil. Most of the weapon is relatively easy to disassemble. The lock ring on the rear handguard was a challenge and what I read warn about the fragility of the wood.
This handguard clip remover fit the description of what had been used historically when working on these guns. One side is slightly longer than the other.
This tool is not fancy by any means and I argued with myself about buying a tool with such limited use. I had tried a number of other means, unsuccessfully, to remove the clip from the handguard. This arrived, I examined it, made a couple of attempts to find the right angle and movement, and the clip easily came off the handguard. To make sure I used the tool to put the clip back on and then remove it again. I did this a few times until I was sure of myself. This exercise resulted in the metal clip and the wood handguard both remaining in pristine condition.
Bottom line is I would highly recommend buying and using this tool if working on such a handguard and clip system. The cost is reasonable, the proper motion is very easy to learn, and it does the job beautifully.Read full review

Not worth it.
I received this tool and sad to say but it is of poor quality steel and the prongs are too large to fit an M1/M14/M1A hand guard clip. I then attempted to modify the prong tips to correctly fit the clip, but the steel is so poor it fell apart as soon as I could pry open the clip. It is marked on the packaging as made in China and sadly it shows the lower end of that old stereotype. I hope the seller can acquire better quality tools for sale in the future, as even if modified, the metal is poor enough to only be useful a handful of times before breaking. Not happy. Wasted $19 for this when I’m broke as is.Read full review

M1/M14 Rear handguard clip tool
I love this tool, it makes installing & removing the clips quick & easy. Just remember to line up the tool with the short side with the shirt side of the clip. Spread the clips as wide as they will go and lift up from the short side. Wgen reistalling the clip spread the clip as wide as you can, then slip over from the end of handguard. You will need to do this at a angle to the right, then slip the clip down from the left side. No more worries with cracking those thin handguards. It's that easy!
Buy the tool now you won't be sorry.Read full review

One time use
while I only used this tool once it is a must when removing or installing the metal band on a M1 Garand rear stock. It works is about all I can say about it. Cheaper than replacing the portion of the stock. Good chance I will never use it again but if I do need it I will have it.Read full review

Right Tool For the Job
Accu-Snith Gunsmithing - I've removed and installed a ton of these handguard clips by means of pick and plier method. It's always a pain and a couple times I've split handguards. Not cool - especially if it's new wood or you've JUST refinished it. This tool makes it super super easy to spring open the clip and slip it onRead full review
