Great! Entertaining! Enjoyable!

Great western movie...always have liked Charlton Heston, liked the story and the outcome of "life" choices revealed.

Waste of Talent

A good cast doesn't guarantee a good movie. This bad movie was because of a bad story line to begin with. The yankees and rebels never reconciled their differences up to today (unlike the movie fantasy). The hero was ambiguous from start to finish leaving the viewer wondering what his objective was. Because Heston acted his usual "silent but strong" stereotype throughout the entire movie that didn't work here; his role required and failed the necessary metamorphosis from good guy to bad guy. Peckinpah was never one of Hollywood's iconic directors as claimed. And in his first big budget film he's proved it. No wonder he concentrated on just blood and guts violence from here on.Read full review...

Very Good Movie that was Already a Classic

One of Sam Peckinpah's very first and well directed movie classics. Released in 1965, Major Dundee was an instant classic and action packed movie about a disgruntled Major of a civil war prisoner of war camps that is played by Charlton Heston.
Heston who plays Major Dundee takes it upon himself to take Rebel and Confederate prisoners along with Union soldiers and take off after a warrior Apache chief into Mexico whose crossing the border and murdering civilians and people crossing back and fourth across the US/Mexican border. A total of 30 extra minutes left on the editing floor was remastered and added into the the film along with a new musical score that adds a modern sound to this film. Released in 1965 and now forty years later the REAL story can be told about one of the untold stories of the American Civil War!
