Heavy but good tool

This is quite a large heavy tool but it is very capable. Have used it with bosch tree pruning blades and cut up lots of 4 to 5 inch branches. Completed the whole job on a single battery. Would highly recommendRead full review...

Quality and power

This Makita saw is very powerful and cuts through metal very quickly. It feels reassuringly solid and good value for money. The quick change blade holder is very useful. The rubber coating provides a comfortable grip.
It does feel unwieldy if you use one hand- you reallly need both hands for a controlled cut.
My one disappointment is that there is no job light- I made the mistake of assuming there would be one as most makita cordless products seem to have them now.

It really is powerful, and easy to use.

First time I've used it was tonight, and brought out a lot of little projects I wanted to try it out on.

First, I took a 7" thick log of about 4' long. I cut this into fireplace 12" long cuts in less than 5 minutes, not even making the saw work hard.

Next, I had a long pallet made up of good 2X4" frame pieces. Cut through the slats and nails as if there were no nails in it. Literally the same speed as my Makita Jigsaw would cut through a 1/2" piece of plywood.

Finally, had some 4" X 4" X 16" blocks of hard oak I wanted to make a mallet out of. Cut it and again went through it easily and cleanly. No burning, no lag.

Good part is, got it at a lower price than Amazon. Also, it came in two days.

I'm so pleased I bought it.

Powerful, rugged, heavy, easy blade change, eats batteries

Surprisingly powerful, easily holds its own with mains powered versions, but it does get through the batteries quite quickly. Seems very tough and durable, thick rubber bumper at the business end to fend off any knocks. Heavy. Easy blade change with just a twist of the shank.

Safety switch is a recessed toggle so can be easily left on by mistake and then it's easy to set the saw going when picking it up (especially with gloves) as the trigger is quite large and proud - makes for an exciting experience.

Rugged and powerful

I purchased this primarily for pruning tasks in the garden, beyond the reach of a power cord and in circumstances where I would rather not risk using a chainsaw (even though it is a Makita cordless). Coupled with some chunky Bosch blades, it has made short work of taking down some dead branches and dealing with an overgrown hawthorn up to 120 mm dia. Only small disappointment is that the shoe is not adjustable but I couldn't really justify paying nearly twice as much for the brushless version just so I could have an adjustable shoe. Otherwise, a great addition to my toolkit and, of course, it shares the 18 volt LXT battery platform with my other Makita cordless tools.Read full review...

Makita reciprocating saw DJR186Z

Used for cutting branches. Cuts well upto 80mm. Handy for small spaces due to thin blade and no obstruction at the back of the cut. Also used on aluminium. Cut with ease. Good saw

Good all round tool

A very capable tool, easy tool less blade change with safety lockout, does consume 5 amp batteries though. I think the brushless version is kinder on battery life

Great Saw

I bought this saw as I already have other 18v Makita tools and I wanted an electric saw to cut through old steel central heating pipes at home.

It has coped with the original job and has proved to be an excellent garden saw able to cut through tree branches up to 6in thick with ease.

This is a very versatile piece of equipment.
