Makita HP457D 18V Cordless Combi Hammer Drill Set

Good workhorse

I bought this item to replace one with a broken clutch. I already had the batteries so all I needed was the drill body. I am a carpenter by trade and my original drill has been used most weeks for the past two and a half years but using it to screw in over 700, 3 and 4 inch screws finally wore it out. This new unit is exactly the same model number as my old one and is brand new. I cannot find fault with this item, the chuck is a one hand operation and can hold drills as small as 2mm. The motor is sufficiently powerful to turn a 100mm x 5mm screw completely into softwood without a pilot hole. The hammer action is adequate for most building materials but you will need a bigger drill for hard bricks and concrete. I was going to replace the gearbox but the cost of the unit plus postage brings the price up to buying this complete unit. A simple drill with great features

Bought to replace a failed unit. To be fair it had been very heavily used in a commercial environment and it lasted well for what is really a hobbyist or diy tool. This replacement is the same model and fits my stock of batteries and charger. The old one only failed on a minor piece of plastic that meant it could no longer switch between forward and reverse. A new switch mechanism was £44 whereas a totally new unit for less than £40. Excellent value and I can still use the old one in forward only. Postage/delivery good. A very cost effective means of having two Combi Drills.

Product is precisely as described. I already have a Mikita HP457D Combi Drill with two rechargeable batteries but the slower driver setting no longer works. By purchasing a new identical Combi Drill (body only) I am now able to use the new one for either drilling or as a driver, plus keeping the old one for use as a driver only.
