The backstory to Sleeping Beauty
This is by far a better story with a more adult angle, with more depth. Not specifically a fairy tale but more a story about one specific fairy, a tale about the 'evil', slighted 'witch' Maleficent and how she got such a bee in her bonnet about Aurora.
I see it as youth's innocence turned into trust betrayed is the theme running through the story on two levels. Reasonable special effects generally. A couple of things don't agree with the cartoon version of Sleeping Beauty but you could say, this is the real version as opposed to the cleaned up romanticised cartoon version.
Both the leads,Jolie and Fanning, put their hearts and souls into their characters.Read full review

However, the tale takes a dark, misogynist tale from the brothers Grimm, and turns it into an equally dark tale about toxic masculinity, and how no man can ever be trusted. Disney's Meleficent is a really clever re-working of the Sleeping Beauty story, and the artistry and special effects are breath-taking !
You simply have to see this ! As you watch, you will start by adoring Meleficent as a child, and be totally captivated by her charm, then grieving for her pain, then being appalled at her evil ways, then you end up loving her and wishing she was your God Mother too ! It’s an emotional roller coaster !!!!!
