Good to watch whilst in lockdown

Excellent, but why? it's a clunky old 1970 series, shot on wobbly sets and some dodgy acting, particularly by Alfred Lynch. But it has some really interesting themes such as the rivalry between organisations on both sides of the conflict. The quality of acting is lifted by Robert Hardy who has some excellent lines and Philip Madoc as his foil. Other, now well known actors appear from episode to episode such as T P McKenna, George Sewell and Nerys Hughes. Well worth watching but don't expect high quality production values.Read full review

Little to recommend

I watched this programme when it was originally broadcast and as far as I remember enjoyed it. The dvd set shows how much production and story lines have moved on since 1970 .Overlong storyline , the series could easily have been compacted into say 10 episodes ,as the french drama series SPIRAL is.very ,very disappointing purchase .Read full review

Engaging WWII drama

Another excellent release by Network Distributing, in a sturdy plastic case. Good A/V transfer, as good as they can do from old videotape sources. An engaging - if sometimes stagey and hokey - thriller set during the Nazi occupation of France, with stellar performances from Peter Barkworth, Richard Hurndall, Philip Madoc, and many more. Like Secret Army, but with way more toilet jokes.Read full review

very brilliant but somehow contaminating and possibly a bit dangerous emotionally as it was then in 1970

disc four sticks but you can just nudge and coach it along with patience it does spoil it a bit at the time but the brisk narrative and suspense soon makes up for it. and.You feel like you have lost the best friend or friends you have ever had by the end that is to say last couple of episodes..Read full review

worthy reminder of the complexities of war

A bit slow and lumpy at the start, but after a few episodes the cast start to get the feel of their characters.
Once they hit their stride, it becomes a great adventure to remind us of how complex humans are and how many facets their personalities have.Read full review

More value than a tv license.

Well as long as you accept it was made 40 years ago so everything is very 1970 (sets etc) and some of the storyline is rather vague to say the least it still, beats the rubbish on todays tv schedules.

Its bought back a lot of good memories . The acting of the day was not as good as it might be today . The filmage looked a bit dated compared with todays Film making . Sorry I cant fault it ,Worth every pound it cost to buy it . Read full review
