Get packing!

Over the last few months I've been toying with the idea of a motorcycle touring holiday to Eastern Europe & the Crimea. During a route-planning visit to the local library I picked up a copy of Michael Palin's New Europe. I found Michael's witty sense of humour and places visited so engrossing I finished the book in three days. The book and the colour photos can only give a glimpse of the places he toured.

The DVD, on the other hand provides another perspective on the countries visited and the people he met. The DVD is split into the eight programmes in the series with an easy to follow menu. Because it is a DVD of the series I found myself having to skip the opening titles and scenes to get to the journey. This is annoying but no different to most other DVDs of this type. There is an option to select specific scenes if you know how to navigate to them. Overall an excellent DVD which makes you feel that you are taking part in the journey. It has certainly given me many ideas for several holidays to come. Highly recommended. and makes you want to do it for real.

New Europe

As usual Michael Palin surpasses himself as an explorer into countries that have been forgotten! He is an excellent tour guide with descriptive and entertaining explanations of the wonderful countries he visits! We have other Michael Palins dvd's and decided to get this one to add to the collection as we never tire of watching or listening to his work! He is ever the comedian even in the most serious of situations! Well done Michael!Read full review...

If your expecting the in depth programming of all of palins other work you may be dissapointed ,, still very good but not a touch on the rest of his documentaries.
