Microsoft's Surface Pro 6 is brillaint

Having owned and used previous iterations of the Surface Pro line, I was always left with a sense of disappointment. Now don't get me wrong, the design and improvements over the generations have been very welcome, but dual core CPU was always the one area that could have been improved upon.

The Surface Pro 2017 offerings, did improve things significantly with the fan less Intel Core i5 models, so when Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 6 with Quad Core Intel Core CPU, with Hyper threading and Turbo Boost 2.0 capabilities, I was seriously interested.

Long story short? While many reviews go on endlessly about the lack of USB-C ports, the Surface Pro 6 is an absolute powerhouse machine, finally delivering everything the Surface Pro promised to deliver. The ports on offer are compatible with all my current gear. I have no plans to upgrade them yet, they're still working perfectly well.

If you need USB-C, there are adapters out there which connect to the Surface port and offers fast throughput should you require it.

I've taken a while to write this review, because I really wanted to test the Surface Pro 6 fully and it has never let me down. Photoshop, Lightroom, On1 Photo RAW 2019, Luminar 3 all run beautifully with no obvious lag or overheating issues.

I opted for the mid range Surface Pro 6 with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD and it is an absolute delight to use. Windows 10 Home, was quickly upgraded to the Pro version through the Windows Store, but for most users Windows 10 Home, will be more than you need. It runs fast and fluidly.

As a Mac user, some may wonder why I ever went down the Surface Pro path. The answer is simple, the Surface Pro offers the most capable and compact desktop experience bar none IMHO.

When combined with Signature Type Cover, Pen and Microsoft Arc Mouse, this really is a take everywhere device. In fact the Surface Pro 6 has very quickly become my daily driver. It is my go to device.

If you're looking for a compact, lightweight, desktop class mobile solution, the Surface Pro 6 is well worth a look. Great battery life, excellent display and a vast array of desktop class software that can be installed, makes the Surface Pro 6 a serious option for ANY computer user.

Solid piece of kit

Only received the product today but, after running through set up, it seems to be a well sorted and configured piece of equipment. Speed good so far - then again, no major software added to date.
Next purchase is SD card to boost the storage further.Read full review...

This is a good machine and the i5 performs well . I particularly like that it has windows Pro.

This is a good machine for the price and performs well. The battery life is a bit shorter than advertised probably due to use and is not an issue. Otherwise it is in good condition and I am pleased with it. Read full review...
