Casting a shadow on AAA gaming

Yes, the game isn't technically amazing; from a cynical point of view the outputted fps for example running at 30 is atrocious - especially for combat, however, the game is also far more compelling than most AAA games released today. Though the hallmarks of Ubisoft games have all but left an elephant sized stamp on the game, mechanics that feed into organic world building - such as the orc leader system are fantastic. Fighting reoccurring villains that change and adapt each time you fight them is a brilliant system, and by itself elevates the game past other open world games.

Brutal and fantastic

Shadow of Mordor kept me hooked from start to finish. This is a game for any lord of the rings fans. Fast paced combat, good story telling, plenty of side missions.
It does have its flaws though, the ending was anticlimactic and this game felt like assassins creed with a different texture and 'lord of the rings' slapped on it. But it still held my attention for the whole game, maybe because it was a short game.
I would still give this five stars because the DLC in the GOTY edition makes up for some of this games short-falls.
The hunter one was slow, kind of boring. But the other main DLC was fantastic, a story of vengeance that gives you the boss battle that the main game should have.
