Mind Boggling

Middlemarch is a long book which is slightly tedious at times but also very funny in places. The relationships which drive the plot are very complicated as everybody is, or has been, married to someone else's bother or sister so that everyone in it is distantly related to everyone else. There are four different plots, some of which don't mesh well together. However, George Eliot's psychological insight is profound and she delves into characters' feelings to great detail. For this alone it is worth persevering with.Read full review
