Unique, great fun, but a bit unpolished

Stories is a new take on Monster Hunter's traditional gameplay, while being somewhat of a Pokemon clone. You run around different locales with your Monstie (a monster hatched from an egg) battling wild monsters in turn based combat and raiding their nests for new eggs to hatch. On top of that, the wild monsters you slay will drop various materials which can be used to craft new gear and upgrade your existing gear. Said creatures can range from herbivorous dinosaurs, flying wyverns, carnivorous raptors and even mythical dragons. The combat system can be barebones compared to rock paper scissor, but it goes much deeper than that if you choose to. The game even has a pretty good story.

On the downside, the game has a lot of unpolished elements such as occasional FPS drops and slow movement speed inside towns and cities, and these can sometimes feel a little irritating, but it in no way makes the game unplayable.

Definitely a good buy for every age group, just a shame about the lack of quality of life.Read full review...

Gotta hatch 'em all

I'm not a huge turn-based fan, but I like the simplistic, easy to learn strategy style of Monster Hunter Stories. It's easy without being boring, and challenging enough to struggle a little along the road. It's colourful, charming and has a bunch of side quests. Somewhat similar to Ni no Kuni and Pokemon. You can customise your character and download some extra Zelda, Himotou! Umaru-chan etc side quests/arena battle challenges to get some additional content.
