Moon (2009)

Moon is exactly what you want to expect from a Science Fiction movie.

It's a movie that grabs your attention with it's direct and intimate scenery, and it shows a lot of character.
It's a perfect homage to the old days of Science Fiction movies.
The title is simple, the script is simple, giving extra space for the execution of said script and story.

-
In the very near future,
Mankind has found a new way for harvesting clean energy, Helium-3.
Energy that is harvested from the Moon's surface, which one man was given the job to do so.

Sam will run the harvesters from a Moon base and occasionally sends full Helium-3 containers back to Earth.
This he will continue to do for 3 years, until his contract ends and he can go back to Earth...
-

You can almost experience the loneliness Sam is going through in his years on the Moon base.
And the friendship he has built up with his only colleague, a robot named Gerty, that assists Sam and does maintenance inside the base.

Lonely, but peaceful.

When Sam almost finished his 3-year contract on the base, something happens.
Something that will disturb the harmony that Sam has been living in.

This movie has many nods to, Silent Running, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Solaris, and many other brilliant classics!
The Special Features on this DVD give many personal and intimate views on how this movie came to be, and why it was made.

Do not miss out on this title if you're a fan of good Science Fiction movies, this one is definitely worth your time!
(Rated 8/10 on IMDB)

Unknown gemstone

A consistent movie with an interesting setting. The cast is limited and the effects aren't high budget, but it comes together as a decent movie that gains from targetting a more adult audience.

Thought-provoking

I enjoyed this film tremendously, and found it so thought-provoking that i was still analysing it the following day. Plenty of nods to other sci-fi classics and a denouement to leave you guessing.

Best sci-fi movie I have seen in ages. Sam Rockwell provides a stellar preformance worthy of all the awards this film has recieved. I'd rate it a 4.5/5.

Moon. Not what i expected !

This film was not at all what i expected.
The comparison to other film's of a similar ilk is very likely.
2001/2010 are the most likely to compare it too, where i am afraid it fail's to compete.<br>It can be likened to a more psychological experience than a true Sci Fi movie.
There are element's that let this film down.
The acting and actor do their best, the director too. The storyline lacks the ability to keep you hooked other than for curiosity to see the outcome. But even that outcome can be predicted less than halfway through.
I have given it a GOOD rating as i consider it just above average, but i do expect my Sci Fi to reach Excellent.
I would say 2001/2010 would rate Excellent.
The back of the film cover suggests it is a film for the intelligent and purports to imply it would be up there with Blade Runner, well i say NOT.
Blade Runner outstrips this film and would be better time spent rewatching than this film would be for the first time.
It's not even a dvd that i would keep at the front of my collection for re-watching.
Film's that make it to the front would include 2001/2010/Blade Runner/Alien etc/Dune/Star Wars (all)/AI/I robot/Predator/Close Encounter's/War of the Worlds (old and new) / The day the earth stood still (old only) / Time Machine (old only), in fact any on that list would be better time spent than watching Moon.

So in short do not pay top dollar for this film and you will not feel robbed,do not expect this film to reach into your soul and add to your life experience because it does not.But if you want some entertainment and some psychological test as to your own ability to predict an ending then feel free to try it out.

I sincerely wish i could have reviewed this on the excellent scale that i expected, but i am a little dissapointed with MOON.

Quality doesn't have to shout

This film has much in common with Silent Running, an overlooked classic from the 1970's. Its great to see one man, an exceptionally strong actor mind you, carry a whole film without it even seeming noticeable that he's doing so. Connoisseurs of the craft can enjoy the nuances of Sam Rockwell's performance...but there's more. There's a good story too. Everyone will make the point that this proves people still want films like this, not just pointless SFX and remakes and reboots, and everybody will be right. Just see what can be done with next to nothing in terms of money.Read full review...

The First Fantastic Film from Duncan Jones (David Bowie's Son)

The First Feature SCI-FI Film from Director Duncan Jones, who is the Son of David Bowie (David Jones) and also happens to have worked for/with Director Ridley Scott's Brother, Director Tony Scott making Commercials, which is how Ridley Started is Career!
So, No Surprize to me that this is a Fantastic Little Film well worth seeing and adding to ones Collection, even though it only cost $5,000,000 to make, It really does Punch well above it's weight - Maybe a Future Cult Classic!
