This stainless steel version is the second Brita kettle we have had, the previous black plastic one was excellent in use but became badly stained by the local hard chalky water. This one has a weighty solid feel to it, equally good at filtering the chalky water, it looks as if it will retain the smart looking appearance for far longer. In addition the lid mechanism of the previous plastic version was compromised by the build up of chalk and my hope is that this will no longer be a problem. Saves space on the kitchen work surface
