Intriguing twists and solid drama - a great view!

Murdoch is a Canadian Detective in Toronto at the turn of the 19th/20th centuries. It's a time when forensics is making its appearance and policing is becoming more productive in solving and even preventing crime instead of just flinging the baddies in jail. The characters interact so well, from the feisty old-time Yorkshire copper in Inspector Brackenreid (but with a heart of gold underneath the bluff exterior) to the very new idea of a woman Pathologist, who also happens to provide the love interest for Murdoch himself. Young constables George Crabtree and Higgins provide great back-up to the detecting work and with George's inquiring mind, you just know he is destined for greatness in the future.
'Murdoch' also includes the famous people of the day, Arthur Conan Doyle, Harry Houdini, Nicolai Tesla, Buffalo Bill, etc, and their involvement in the storyline adds to the authentic feel of this series.
As the 11th series in this franchise is about to appear soon, it's obvious that this series hits the perfect note for those who enjoy a quirky plot with an historical viewpoint of the introduction of various policing techniques (such as finger-printing) as well as new inventions of the times (X-rays and Radium, for example) without all the shootings, blood and gore of more 'modern' police dramas.
'Murdoch' is a comfortable, interesting, solid trot through history and police dramas at its best. Not the most brain-taxing of plots, but good storylines with some thought-provoking heart-searching as crime becomes more complex in itself.
In this 5th series, we meet the new lady Coroner, Dr Emily Grace, we cross paths with more famous folk of the era (Jack London, Henry Ford and even Alexander Graham Bell), investigate an Egyptian curse and even dabble with Time Travel!
All in all, a very pleasant way to spend 40 or 50 minutes per episode - and no ad breaks! What more could you ask for!
