NOT a fan of westerns at all... ~BUT~

Tom Hanks was in it so, I purchased it.
I'm being bias here because of Hanks (my favorite actor for decades) so, it was better than expected.
But, it's not definitely not one of his better movies.
If you like westerns, you'll like it better than I did.

Best movie in the last 5 years

Best film in the last 5 years. I loved 2 others Greyhound and Maverick also both excellent. Hanks who is in his 60’s is like a fine old cognac he just keeps getting better. The girl in this is perfect as the orphaned Indian capture child. The two of them are perfect together. This is a special love story between 2 people who have both lost so much. Johanna two sets of parents and Captain Kidd a veteran of the Civil War his wife to cholera while he’s away fighting. Both are broken but both are smart and brave to life’s challenges. He ends up rescuing her and then he’s taking her to a aunt and uncle. They learn each other and then finally love each other. It ends well. It’s a captivating watch all the way through and it’s perfect in every way. Buy this and understand this type of film is rare now amidst the virtue signaling left that would probably consider it some kind of racist offender even though I saw nothing like that. Hollywood is dying, people want the old stories that are not considered worth doing. Spielberg with his liberalism is can barely sell a movie ticket. Buy this.Read full review

Well produced but a dark movie by Hanks

I love Tom Hanks as and actor. The movie is well produced as I expected it. It’s a dark movie and I enjoyed it. But it would have never been a box office smash for Hanks.

Good Movie!

A bit of what I call “a dark western”, but Tom Hanks does indeed carry the movie, and is great in his character. Not exactly a “feel good movie”, but well done!

Great movie. Tom Hanks brings realism to the western.

We really liked this movie. Watched it 4 times since we got it. Realistic western that keeps you thinking after its over. Highly recommend.
