Wholesome and heartwarming, the little girl did a great job of acting along with Hanks....
Simple, Tom Hanks is an excellent actor and we knew this would be a really good movie which it is, we pretty much like anything he stars in. Watch it you won't be disappointed.....!

A Slow Tom Hanks Movie
For me, this was not your regular engaging Tom Hanks movie. The movie seems to run a close parallel to the true-life story of Cynthia Ann Parker, a Caucasian girl captured by Comanche Indians in Texas in 1836. If one knows that story, the movie becomes rather predictable from the outset. Hanks' character attempts in earnest to return family (any white family) his "found orphaned" young trail mate. But in the end, just like Parker, she goes back to her Indian family. Except for a couple of tense scenes, the movie is slow and does not produce. Tom Hanks character is not particularly interesting, though Hanks does his usual good job acting him. The girl, nearly mute, leaves Hanks talking to himself mostly. Read full review

Dark, rainy scenes--unbelievable events
Dark, rainy scenes--unbelievable events. The characters were engaging, but the story line was just too unbelievable--the Indians gave them a horse & they survived unscathed being attacked and out-numbered. Watched it once but to me a really good movie is one you know you will want to watch again later--not this. Once was quite enough for us. Definitely not a keeper. Really hoped it would be, but disappointed.Read full review

Engrossing, entertaining, and historically wonderful
This sort of WW2 movie could not have been made until CGI was perfected. How else could a convoy of hundreds of WW2 ships be created? Engrossing and entertaining... and historically interesting movie..not quite done before... only movie I can remember quite like this was 1957s "The Enemy Below" Robert Mitchum and Kurt Jurgens.... but this was one destroyer, vs one submarine... Whole WW2 convoys and wolf pack full of submarines were just not available even in 1957.Read full review

Fine movie
Tom Hanks is outstanding in this movie. If you're looking for a Magnificent 7 type movie this isn't it. But it is a fine western. Very entertaining.
A great addition to our video library.
An often overlooked gem. A remarkable story, well told. The actors at their very best.
