Nexus 5

The best value to performance ratio I have found over the last few years. A replacement for the 5 in the Nexus range doesn't seem to have triggered too many replacements and in our house we still have 2 of this version simply because there is no compelling reason to change them! We don't appear to be the only ones either as even at approaching 3 years old, finding used ones is a challenge. Simple, no-frills, great custom firmware options

This phone just gets the job done. It's slightly dated now but that just makes it great value for money, as it's still getting the latest updates and all the fancy new features first.

In terms of hardware, I can't fault the crisp 1080p display, and while the processor is getting a little dated, it still powers through most tasks with ease.
I hope you have headphones however, because the single mono speaker is sub-par. The same can be said about the camera - if you're looking for a good snapper, you're better off going for a Galaxy S or Xperia Z series phone. It still performs well enough.

And don't get me started on the software possibilities. If you're a tinkerer, this phone along with the rest of the Nexus lineup is for you. It's a clean slate and the XDA forums has just about every popular ROM imaginable.Read full review...
