A Russian cameo

Amazingly, English orchestras seem to be first rate at delivering the authentic atmosphere of the Russian
Nationalist School of composition. I wonder why? The renowned Philharmonia Orchestra of the fifties did it wonderfully in Balakirev and Borodin in those days and their descendants now seem fully up to speed in doing the same job today.
This version of Rimsky's Overture on Russian Themes is in true Philharmonia/Russian mode and is, I am sure, one that the great master himself would approve of. I have no doubt that Svetlanov also would give it an affectionate nod.
