NIKON COOLPIX 4300

I studied photography at college and was heavily into 35mm Single Lens Reflex cameras. I developed my own pictures and spent a fortune on camera bodies and lenses.

Needless to say I was sceptical when digital photography came onto the scene. After a lot of deep thought and consideration I decided that I would take the plunge but would opt for something a little more pocket friendly. Naturally it was the compact form that would be the best option as SLR style digital cameras were not widely available of at that time and monstrously expensive.

I looked at all the leading 35mm brands such as Canon, Minolta, Pentax and Nikon. As a user of 35mm SLR's I had used these all and more and was confident that they would the the fore runners in the digital imagery race.

I wanted something that felt good to hold, not one of these fly-away cameras. I wanted an ergonomic design where I could control everything I needed to without having to move the camera around. I wanted a view finder (ok so now I know that it's a "Chocolate teapot" when you have a crisp LCD screen to view your composures on) I was after build quality! I wanted a quality lens. I wanted point and shoot but also wanted the ability to over ride these settings when needed. I had a large budget as I wanted something that was going to last.
I spent £550 on my coolpix 4300 when I bought it. Money well spent. It has produced sharp sharp images which will hang in a frame upto and beyond 5" x 7" as long as you spent the money on the right paper type. On screen the images stay crisp upto 2200 x 1400 approx. pixels, which is plenty large enough to work on with the likes of Adobe photoshop to touch up skin tones and red eye etc.

The lens is a true NIKKOR zoom which produces sharp lines and true colours.
The LCD screen is bright and is very user friendly. (as with all it is useless in bright sunlight - hence the view finder)
All menus are accessible from a thumbdial with familiar icons.
The body design gives a sure grip for bigger hands.

The Coolpix 4300 camera is truly a milestone in the development of digital photography. One that unfortunately will get lost in the mists of time. As long as there is USB ports and JPEG files there will be marvelous images created with the Coolpix 4300.

I would seriously recommend the Coolpix as an all rounder. It is comfortable to use for women and luxurious for us guys with bigger hands too.

nikon coolpix 4300 digital camera

I first became interested in photography about 2yrs ago .my dad was a keen photographer and he gave me a small compact camera. I began to take lots of pictures but I did"nt like having to wait for them to be developed I started reading books and reviews on digital cameras NIKON was the one that stood out. the coolpix 4300 had really good reviews so I decided to buy one. after reading some of the manual I took some pictures out in the garden as it was a nice sunny day and thought I"d look at them on the TV as the camera comes with an AV cord .I was ASTOUNDED by the picture quality and the vivid colors I love this little camera It has a nice feel to It and so handy to carry around just the right size and looks good. I bought an external battery that screws into the tripod thread so you can take pictures all day and I have even gone as far as buying one as a present for my brother thats how much I like it so the best thing I can say about this camera is "ITS QUALITY".+FANTASTIC ZOOM + CLOSE UP FUNCTION + LOTS OF OTHER SETTINGS+ MANUAL+ THIS IS A FANTASTIC LITTLE CAMERA AND WELL WORTH BUYING.Read full review...

used Nikon COOLPIX 4300 Digital Camera

Bought to replace a good, but battery hungry Konica Dimage X31 compact camera, the Nikon is bulkier but better to hold without getting a photo of your finger in the frame, when lining up a shot the focus motor is constantly adjusting for best shot, it takes really sharp photos that can easily be enlarged, being a novice I am only using auto setting for now, downloading can be done with a USB cable or card reader with instant device recognition by the computer, no disc required, battery recharge is done by removing the Li-ion pack. Being a used camera two faults have appeared, first the plastic lense cover will not stay in place, secondly the battery lid is a feeble affair and its latch has been broken, therefore the battery wants to fall out, previously the lid was secured by sticky tape which left a gummy mess on the casing, now I have fabricated a metal 'tang' and superglued it in place to mimic the original catch. On the whole I am very pleased with the purchase and happy that larger, 900 ma, batteries are cheaply available on Ebay if I need a lot of pictures. There are many settings yet to be tried on the camera which I will experiment with eventually.Read full review...

OK for what it was for

I think i came at this camera with a bias, being a user of a pro nikon, this camera was a gift for a 10 year old so i didn't want anything too fancy in case the novelty wears off.

Pros - takes a reasonably good shot bearing in mind the number of megapixels.
Good range of features and easy to use, a good starter camera. Nikkor lenses being very good and sharp it has the ability to take good pictures.

Cons-The focusing is not entirely accurate, what you see in the viewfinder is not what appears when the shutter is depressed, auto focus motor is very noisy and the focusing is very searchy and fickle.

On the whole, i am sure it will be a good camera and fit for purpose.
