Low shutter r count on a very high end DSLR - whats not to liike! š
When this camera first came out, I ordered one, but there was a supply delay, so I got my hands on its lesser brother the D600. Which I must say, has been a wonderful instrument to use, but I still yearned afr the extra 12MP the D800 could deliver. This camera was advertised on ebay with an impressively low shutter count at a low price. I couldānt resist buying it. The results from it, when used with good quality lenses are astounding. Richly coloured, sharp, and with beautiful gradation. I have only printed A2 sized images from it so dar, but they have been outstanding. The D800 produces Medium Format quality images in a compact, feature packed body You can selectively enlarge from small portions of the image, and still produce high quality images too. Superb camera and great value 2nd hand
Bought the d800 as a second body and all I can say is wow in comparison to my 610 the image quality is phenomenal, however there are things to be aware of this camera is hard on the batteries and file size is huge in comparison to its little brother but totally worth it, more intuitive camera imo, better low light focus ability and low light Iso can be pushed as when compressed removes a lot of the noise from image. Although I bought a used body, not only was the counter use low but the body itself looked unused, so I will treat this review as though it was a new body.
As I have been used to the Nikon 5200, the weight difference is very noticeable but when paired with a Tamron 24-70 SP VC the balance is good, I admit, after each shot I let the camera hang on the neck strap but then I do suffer from Arthritis in my wrist.
What I do like is the dedicated controls for the main functions so you can change ISO, f stops and so on without using menus, when in continues mode there is only a slight speed increase compared to my D5200 (using in low setting), but I have read that by adding a battery grip this increases, what I was impressed with while on the subject of battery grip, although I bought a third party one (not a cheap y) that some of the main functions on the battery grip still function without a battery installed.
The overall build quality is very good and feels like you good drop it and it would just bounce, please donāt try this!, I have broken a few lens hoods as I am clumsy, but I reckon the D800 will survive my clumsiness.
Performance, well its not as fast as a D4, but what you are getting is a 36M 35mm sized sensor and years ago I worked with both 35mm and medium format and I would say that the detail captured is on par with medium format, although I donāt have the tech details to hand, I am sure the dynamic range is wide, the focus is fast and probably the only limiting factor is the lenses you use, I have tried 2 other lenses and felt the lenses where holding the D800 back on its true potential, it seems more aimed at the pro side of the market than a serious amateur not that we should be put of, and I know the D850 is now available if you have deep pockets, but I am very pleased with this used model and it may take a while before I can afford the D850 which apart from recording video at 4k instead of HD, their seems to be no major differences.
Early days yes I have only had the D800 a couple of weeks, but I am so confident using it knowing that as long as the lens performs well that all my shots will be good (that is technically, the photography by me is something else!)
Bigger bag, yep if you have upgraded like me then you will need a larger camera bag especially if you intend on using a pair to avoid lens swapping or add a battery grip.

If the weight, bulk and speed are not issues then if you canāt stretch to the D850 then I highly recommend a good used D800 as you will not be disappointed, Nikon have build a real stunner which many still hold their price well, but its worth looking for one thatās got a low shutter count, mines was 19k, up to 100k is still considered low.Read full review...

Festival on at the start to say this camera is slightly heavy but when it comes to the picture it shines quality right there when you hold it on your hand you feel like it is a camera it is at his best will take care little brightness to get used to the buttons or the menu but once you must hit you will be producing them very very pleasant pictures battery life on this is reasonable. I bought this item on a whim, I felt I needed something that would give that little extra to my photographs. These cameras new, are extremely expensive for most people like me on a modest budget ... so this one was a godsend ... It is far more complicated than my previous model D3200 and will take me some time to get used to using it, and taking advantage of all it has to offer. Fantastic camera. Quality of photos is absolutely stunning and fabulous. Well built camera and very easy to use. I used a third party Gotox flash and the results were superb. I very rarely needed to sharpen a photo. With the right setting on the camera i doubt very much thart i would ever need to shartpen a photogrtaph in photoshop, ever again. The quality was that good. Simply amazing camera. the blur issue others have mentioned when using the nikon d800, is merely lack of use and skill from the photographer. If one sets the right aperture and shutter speed there is absolutely ZERO problems. Excellent Camera
Nice chunky camera with excellent image quality. This is really where the D800 betters the Canon 5D iii, the 5D is an excellent jack of all trades camera but fails to compete with this beauty in overall image quality and colour.
Please don't be put off by people saying this can only be used in studio environments or tripod only, its a fantastic tool for hand held photography. I think the 36mp sensor just scared the old school guys but this is a fantastic all rounder.
You get much better colour than the D600/D750 sensor in my opinion, not quite up to the DF/D4 standard but really beautiful, wonderful depth/tones and image pop.Read full review...
