A fabulous all round lens

This really is a super lens as a standard zoom, it's wonderfully fast 2.8 aperture allows so much flexibility for low light work, portraiture and so much more. It has fabulous sharpness through all focal lengths even when operating at its maximum aperture and it's super fast internal focus is a joy to use.
If there is a negative it isn't a light lens particularly when hung off one of the pro Nikon bodies such as my D3X, but as someone who is used to lugging a 300mm 2.8 around this is a minor downside for such a great optic.

slightly dissapointed

I bought this lens with no great expectations. A second hand lens is never going to be as good as a brand new one and I was not surprised when the results were ever so slightly soft. The condition is excellent but the end product is everything with a lens and I got what I paid for. Read full review...

Great all-around lens but heavy

This is great zoom lens by Nikon producing sharp photos with a very useful focal lenght

If weight and size is an issue for you, I would suggest borrowing or renting one, walking around and then decide whether this lens is for you. The lens are quite heavy and bulky.Read full review...

Nikon AF-S 17-35mm f2.8 ED-IF Lens

I took my time and read a lot of articles on fast wide zooms before deciding on this lens. As a wedding/ commercial photographer, I needed a lens that would meet the needs and rigours of the job. So far, I have no complaints - it does exactly what it should and produces images of superb quality.

Is this lens for everyone?
Not necessarily, justifying the cost depends upon your personal circumstances and needs (is it the only lens that meets your photographic requirements and do you need to have an aperture of f2.8?), also the rugged build quality makes it heavier than cheaper lenses which may put some people off carrying around all day if on holiday.

For the same reason that I love my D3, I like the solid assurance and feel that you get with a pro lens - whatever your requirements, you just know you will get good results.

Other lenses? What other lenses?

A friend of mine had this lens and suggested it to me as "one of the best, if not the best, out in the market". The all the way f/2.8 was the most important feature, the cherry on top of the cake, that made me decide to go for it - and I'm really happy I did. I have combined it with the D300S body I own and use it in everything I do - from weddings to my own experiments. The 24-70 zoom is enough to satisfy most needs and makes it a great lens for both portraiture and landscape photography.

The only negative may be the total weight of the body-plus-lens. I'm a pretty thin and muscle-free girl, so after a day of shooting I end up unable to properly use my arms the next day!

Even so though, I still recommend it 100%. If you are guy, don't even think about it, just go for it. If you are a girl, stand still and think about it for a second; then stop thinking about it and go for it!!

One of the very best

This lens is part of what is known and Nikon's Holy Trinity of lenses, the three "must have" lenses for Professionals and serious hobbists alike.
It produces superbly sharp images throughout its range and is the closest quality a zoom can get to a prime lens. The colour renditioning on the lens is nothing short of stunning.
As it can maintain f2.8 throughout the zoom range it offers the maximum flxibility and control to the Photographer, simply a must have lens for shooting events like Weddings.
Whillst this lens can be used with DX (crop sensor) camera bodies it's real perfoormance is maximised on FX (full frame) bodies.

A perfect lens

These are superb lenses which produce an exceptionally sharp image at all focal lengths. They perform equally well on FX and DX cameras.

Superb images, limited focal range, heavy camera bag!

A great lens albeit the focal length is limited when compared with other options available. It's sharp, images are bright and vibrant, I love it. Trouble is, with the 14-24 & 70-200 in the bag, all equally as good, you've lots of weight to carry on your back to replicate the 18-200 DX f4-5.6. But, if you want image quality... Look no further.Read full review...

Super quality lens.

Excellent lens, in pristine condition just what I ordered. A good fair price for a Nikon lens of this quality.

The lens is unmarked or damaged in any way. Yes it is a little heavy but that's normal for Nikon lenses of quality. There are cheaper lighter lens on the market, but I doubt they would come up to the same degree of sharpness as this lens does.

Teamed up with the Nikon D850 this is an awesome combination for most situations.

Superb quality

Simply the best lease I have ever used on any camera. Great workhorse for event photography but good also for portraits. Built to last, this has been my go-to lens for all of my professional work. Not cheap and not lightweight but will give constantly great results regardless of the lack of VR on the first model.Read full review...
