don't dither, a hidden gem amongst 'ordinary' lenses

super sharp at all focal lengths, fast focus on the pro cameras (I have an F4s and a D5) great seperation of subject due to large aperture and way better handling than the prev push-pull zoom...this is the sweet spot for a cost effective pro lens...available used 300-400 poundsRead full review...

A lovely old tank

A tank of a lens, big, and heavy but beautiful. This is what pros used to use but was later superceded by the 70-200 2.8 for 4 to 6 times the price. I used to wonder why this particular range but now I can see to get that 2.8 at 200 takes a lot of glass. Any longer it would be too heavy but shorter limits its use. The quality of images this produces is gorgeous, there's no VR so bear that in mind, keep your shuuter speed up when hand holding.Read full review...

Part of Nikon's Holy Trinity

This lens is an older version but it is still one of the very best Nikon lenses ever made and seen as essential by many Wedding Photographers. Due too the superb build it maintains f2.8 throughout the zoom range. This version does not have VR but due to its weight and positive handling this is not a major isssue.Read full review...

Nikon pro zoom lenses 70 / 80-200mm 2.8

This Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 is a pro zoom lens.
Now what makes it "pro"?
There are other 80-200mm nikon lenses that are nearly just as good...
so it must be the 2.8 factor... :-)
Over the years Nikon made a lot of 80-200mm or comparable (70-200mm) lenses.
Usually each update made it a bit better then the previous model.
BUT not by much!
Actually this 80-200mm was even better than it's first successor 70-200mm 2.8; this latter was really only any good on DX camera's.
The AF-S version was too big and bulky heavy, even the newest 70-200mm is heavier then this 80-200mm.
To me this particular pro zoom model is the best of all worlds; not too big and heavy and quality nearly the same as the newest and much more expensive 70-200mm's

Very happy with the purchase.

Today I was able to test the lens. I am impressed with the results, the lens produces sharp images, the AF works properly, and I love the images I can take with it. Very good investment, thank you very much!Read full review...

Doesn't get much better.

Amazing bit of glass! Just shot a festival with this and only concern was that AF wouldn't be quick enough but it's actually quite fast with my D750. Vibration control isn't needed either. The optics are fantastic and would highly recommend to anyone with a full frame nikon camera. You could pay £1000 plus for a newer model but why? This is perfect.Read full review...

Fantastic Glass.

Bought this after reading reviews and I wasn't disappointed as it is a fantastic lens that is extremely sharp with beautiful colour rendition. The only downside is that it is built like a tank and weighs as much but then it oozes quality. There is no VR but that isn't really a problem as I just up the ISO to keep a high shutter speed. Anyone buying this lens will not be disappointed as it is quality.Read full review...

Nikon pro zoom 80-200mm 2.8

Nikon pro zoom 80-200mm 2.8 is the best value you can dream of.
Smaller than the 70-200 2.8 and a lot les expensive.
Quality is about 95% of the 70-200 range zooms.

Oldie but a goodie...

Outstanding sharpness. F2.8 throughout the zoom range. It may not be Nikons latest VR zoom but it is a quality lens.
Only downside is the heft at 1.5 kg, but take your choice, lightweight so so quality photos, or heavyweight pinsharp masterpieces ?Read full review...
