Versatile, powerful, compact.

The reviews of this product tend to be lukewarm. I found it to be excellent. There may be other cameras in this category (mirrorless, less than full frame) that do particular things better, such as faster auto-focus etc. But overall, I think this is a really great product with the expected Nikon quality. It is extremely compact especially with the supplied kit lens. That lens has great optics, but a relatively high f/stop. The sensor is very good, allowing you to use high ISO values, which somewhat offsets the limited light gathering of the lens. And of course, you can buy faster lenses if you want the maximum results. If a semi-serious photographer is looking for a very good, convenient, versatile camera that is not too far from the professional level, I think this is a great choice.Read full review

I am impressed!

I did not think much about it after the Z 50 came out, but after considering the Z fc, I realized the Z 50 would be a better fit with my Z 6II. I am impressed. I use it for travel and walk-around, and it is very light and compact. The 16-50mm "kit" lens is surprising good. I shot a lot of plants and flowers up close in breezes, and it nailed focus and was very sharp. Nikon has not made a lens in the Z mount that is not noticeabley better than the F mount. The Z fc is cool and can encourage manual shooting, but the comfortable grip on the Z 50 is better if you don't use a strap. I would prefer the monitor/EVF button be replaced by either the Playback or DISP button. I set it once and forget it (hopefully) as opposed to frequently shuffling the display options or image review.Read full review

Mirrorless is amazing

My first mirrorless camera and it's amazing. Image quality is amazing and it's small and light very easy to carry. Silent mode is great and viewing images in the view finder is crazy fun.
