Nil By Mouth
Ray Winstone was put on this earth just to play this kind of part, Winstone's sheer presence on screen is so frightening, I don't think any other actor could have played the role with such intensity. Kathy Burke as the wife of Winstone trying to cope with alcoholism, drug abuse, petty crime and domestic violence in her extended family is magnificent.
There isn't really a plot as such, just a series of incidents that happen to this dysfunctional family over an period of time. It is an insight into what, I'm sure has happened sometime, somewhere in this country, if it is happening in real life, I feel extremely sorry for the people involved. Violence and bad language are a theme that runs throughout this film, so if you are easily offended don't watch it. If you can, you will be watching a terrific character driven insight into one of the worst sides of British family life.Read full review...
One of my all time favorite films
Kathy Burke is a excellence Actress and plays the part of a Mother trying to keep her Family together in Harmony, with little help from her Alcoholic, slap happy Husband. This is a story of a working class family.
I found the story true to life, although it disturbed me at times, it was compulsive watching. You could not help but have after-thoughts about the film long after seeing it.
I wanted to purchase the DVD for my Sister to watch. I searched all the High Street Shops and could not find it. Once again eBay came to the rescue.Read full review...
