Fast-paced puzzle action a good buy

Trauma Center: Second Opinion (known as Caduceus Z in Japan) is the second game in the Trauma Center series. The series has now moved to the Wii, and was a launch title for the system, and made full use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk attachment. Atlus has dubbed this title a "wii-make."

The Good: Fast-paced puzzle action gameplay shows off a lot of what the Wii Remote can do; surprisingly engaging storyline rife with the best kind of anime melodrama; multiple difficulty settings make the high level of challenge more manageable; controls do a great job of simulating some surgical procedures.

The Bad: While the presentation looks good, it feels dated--no support for widescreen 480p displays; some scenarios demand trial and error or punishing degrees of precision.

This can be frustrating...BUT...

First of all, yes, this game is a remake of the DS version. If you already owned it on DS there's no real reason to buy it again, but if your new to it like I was then you should pick this game up.r>
The game starts with the basic tutorial of the game mechanics, typical procedures, and etc. After getting started it's pretty easy to get the hang of this game. One gripe is that you can breeze right through a surgery and think "yea, this will give me a good rank for sure!" only to find out your still a rookie doctor in their eyes. Solution? Practice. Once you get farther into the game it can be very frustrating trying to pull off your Healing powers in a dire situation.

In this game you will Go from cutting someone open to disarmming a bomb to solving a puzzle like problem. This game can seem redundant, but it has PRO's as well as it's CON's

Pro's: Addictive until you get upset and frustrated with your current operatee dying on you. Satisfaction of stitching someone up, or shooting lazers at crazy bacteria, akward but fun puzzl-esque missions.

Con's: Somewhat annoying voice acting, "I've got to save this Patient" will forever be burned into my brain. You can turn it off however. The game doesn't have a proper proportion of mission to story time. 3 minute surgery, 15 minutes of story. Kinda like Xenosaga.

Other than that this game is definitly worth a rent if your not looking to buy it.Read full review...

Another Trauma Center? Bring it on!

After loving the two DS Trauma centers, Second Opinion was a must buy! More adventures in surgery are awesome, hmm?

Second Opinion is essentially a remake of "Trauma Center: Under the Knife", so expect mostly the same storyline, with a slightly redone script and a new section with an all new doctor. If you have played the "Under the Knife" it might seem repeditive, but if it's been a while since you played the game (about a year for me) or have never played it, the story will be good, or at least worth it to read.

The gameplay is good, but has a few flaws. It is fairly easy to switch tools, but everything else will require a bit of effort. Having to use the Wiimote to move the cursor takes some getting used to, and it is harder to do things quickly and precisely than in the DS versions. Don't expect to get more than a C the first time you do most operations. These harder controls make me less likely to go back and redo operations over and over to get a rank of S, like I did on the S games.

All in all, it is a fun and challenging game. Fans of the series and new gamers would both enjoy it. ^.^

Trying to be a Doctor!!!

Pros
+ Fun, addictive, fast-paced feel of the ER.
+ Visuals are nicely done in a cartoonish style.
+ A perfect example of what the Wii can truly do to make games interesting for everyone and not just gamers.

Cons
- Having to read through the story instead of being able to watch it unfold like the soap opera that it is.
- It can be really hard at times.
- Too short for any hardcore gamer, especially since there is no downloadable content.

Comments
Trauma Center does an excellent job in showcasing what the Wii can do for you. Although there is not much depth to the game, it is so addictive that you will want to play through and then play through again just to show your friends.

Verdict
If you are dying for another Wii game to own, this may be your best option next to Legend of Zelda. Not many other games have mastered the controls of the Wii as well as Trauma Center. Just remember to try before you buy. 4.5/5

Great and Unique Game for the New Wii System

This is a great, fun Game for the Nintendo Wii system. I would recommend it for anyone over 9-10 years old. I have younger cousins who found it enjoyable, however they needed help and got frustrated with the later early stages. The game focuses on performing operations on many different scenarios. The game does a great job of making the operations feel "real" without including a lot of blood and gore. The game does have varied mild language throughout the game, however overall it is appropriate for younger ages, shockingly for a "surgery game" there is no nudity. The game takes place in a anime type world. I personally am not a big fan of anime-type games, however I found this one very well done, by the end of the game I was closely attached to the main characters and was interested in the story line. At times the story can be semi-predictable and like any anime game there are a few corny lines throughout the game, however the story is still very endearing and will get you excited. I received complaints from my roommate when I began to encourage my patients out loud screaming, "Hang in There!" and "C'mon pull through this!"

I was very impressed on how natural this game felt on the Wii. The Wiimote blends in seamlessly in allowing you to easily manipulate the different tools and lets the game feel as real as possible. Instead of having to use a small control stick to cut with a scalple and risk over/under cutting when you are trying to move fast, you now have the great accuracy of the wiimote. The nunchuck is used in this game and allows you too easily and quickly switch tools while continuing the operation with your other hand.

Overall This is a great game for the Wii system. For any DS owners most of the game is the same as the DS version, additionally there are a couple new tools, a new episode, and a new character with her own missions. At this time (Christmas 2006) the only game I see on the Wii that is better would be Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (definitely a 5/5 on my scale). I would say this game is a great choice for anyone +10, especially if they are interested at all in medical/surgery tv shows/games.

It's surgery! With bugs!

I used to play "Life or Death" on the PC a long, long time ago and loved doing surgery. This game is very reminiscent of that game, with much better graphics and a storyline to go along with it. Overall, it's really fun, with puzzles thrown in along with the various surgeries. I found it easy to get sucked in for long periods, so be aware of the time when you're playing. (I started when my husband left for work and was still playing when he came home almost 10 hours later.)

The Bad (But not terrible, just annoying): At times the game doesn't sense movements quite as you do them- that could be an issue with our system rather than the game. For example, at one point you're pulling electrical plugs and it took flailing the Wiimote around to get the plug to "pull out". Also, when you fail a surgery, rather than just starting again at the beginning of the surgery, you start with quite a bit of dialog that is mostly irrelevant to click through. The only other thing I don't like much is that you're stuck playing a male, there's no female option except for the side quests, and then you're female no matter what.

All in all, it's fun and I look forward to finishing it and getting the sequel.

Wii Simulation Game

Trauma Center: Second Opinion takes advantage of the Wii's advanced controllers. It requires you to use different hand motions to control operation procedures. I never got to play pervious version of this game, but I can't imagine that the controls were anything simular. The dialogue is rather extensive and you are unable to bypass most scenes. I have not gotten very far with the surgery, but am looking forward to spending more time learning the different skills. I didn't like the start of the game because it doesn't describe how to use the nunchuck to select the different tools. I bought this game on a whim because it was a good price and shipping was cheep. I am glad I did. I would recommend this game to those who are looking for something different than war games or other types of games that deal with fighting.Read full review...

A really entertaining game, but can be beaten quickly.

This game is fun right from the minute you turn it on. It utilizes the Wii controls better than any other game to date. The game gets into the action quickly and in what seems like minutes, many hours have passed. The 2 things I didn't like about this game is:

1) Due to the story line and relatively few missions, this game is not very re playable.
2) Although the story line is good, 50% of the game is reading. Because of this, the game can be beaten in just a few days. I beat it in 2 days.

Overall, this is a good game and belongs in any Wii Owner's game library. It's especially good for people new to the Wii. It helps players understand and grasp the controls on this otherwise vaguely tricky system.

Fun game.

I purchased Trauma Center: New Blood first and loved it, which made me want to get this game too. The story line isn't continuous through the two games (different cast, setting, everything) so the order of the games doesn't matter. The only thing I do not like about this game is the amount of story line. In New Blood, the whole story line is read out loud instead of just the words at the bottom, but in this one it's just a few phrases that are read out loud. I'd rather just hear it than read it, especially with that amount of dialogue. This is my only complaint for this game, though.Read full review...

Don't let me be your doctor

This was the most wanted game for me,besides Zelda of course. There is a story about a rookie doctor and it goes to show you how much of a rookie he is in the first couple of missions. The game teaches you step by step on how to use each tool correctly and where exactly it needs to be used at.At first it lets you use one tool at a time. Then the hard part comes when you go to mission 3 and beyond, basically you have to remember which tool to use on the patient for the specific sickness they have. The nunchuck is used as the tool selector, and the remote is your guide. There are little dotted lines that you must follow or else your patient can end up dead and it's back to the drawing board with you.Any mistake with your tools and your patients heart beat will drop dramatically. This is a one player game but I tried it out with a couple of friends and it was ending up to be a late evening on a Tuesday night, all we did was take turns on each mission. The game is great and has some replay value to it,such as if you would like to try it on a harder mode,or beat your current rank score with a better grade. But don't try and be a real doctor because I'm sure it's worse in person then it is on a big screen t.v. with a controller as your guide.Read full review...
