Dated, but good mini-series

This was an attempt to generate another blockbuster mini-series by the same author that started the whole mini-series craze with Sho-Gun. On the whole, it still works. While not as intriguing as Sho-Gun, it opens up the culture and atmosphere of Hong Kong. As with all film or TV treatments, it is a pale shadow of the book, but it is visually interesting and tells a good story. At times it seems a bit stilted and doesn't flow as smoothly as I would have liked, but overall it is an enjoyable view.Read full review...

Brosnan at his pre-007 best!

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. I remember this miniseries from years ago, and it does not disappoint. As a follow-up to Shogun and Taipan, three hits in a row. Brosnan in a star vehicle before his turn as 007 is his suave and sexy self. Supporting cast (including Jonathan Rhys Davies) superb. The story line is now dated, since it's set before the handoff of Hong Kong to the Chinese, but the complexity is all there from the book,and the love stories actually ring true. But in the end will Tracy come back for love, or to attempt to unseat the Taipan of the Noble House?Read full review...
