Not good in the USA

I think it it this particular version of Northanger Abbey, which came from the UK, but it would not play in any DVD player. It states "region error" everytime I put it in the player. :(

Very Funny!

This is an Austen adaptation that is a joy to watch! It follows the general outline of the book with one or two little additions (Catherine's dream sequences are very funny), and captures the lightheartedness very well. The actors all did a fine job. It is perhaps not quite as true or well done as gems like the BBC's Persuasion or Pride and Prejudice (both 1995 or thereabouts), but is a well made film for a low budget and is much better than many adaptations of Austen. I have not seen the other adaptation of Northanger Abbey so cannot judge against that.Read full review...

Northanger Abbey

This was the first time I had seen this Jane Austen story, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Acting wasn't the best i've ever seen, but the storyline was good and I enjoy a period drama. Not too long either.Read full review...

Northanger Abbey DVD

I decided to buy this product because I had seen this version on the Jane Austen season on ITV in March and absolutely loved it! So much better than the 1987 version. What I disliked about it was the lack of extras and behind the scenes footage as shown on ITV3. What I loved about it was the wonderful acting, script and locations which convinced me that Northanger Abbey was well worth buying!Read full review...

prefered previous ealier version of Northanger Abbey

Not the best version of Northanger Abbey but still reasonably enjoyable to pass an hour or so. Still prefered an earlier version with Robert Hardy in as the gothic owner of Northanger Abbey.
