There's a reason Oase are one of the best!
Bought to replace an in-pond all-in-one filter during a transfer of fish from one pond to another. Due to mobility/pain issues I was having real problems lifting and bending to maintain the previous filter, which was also under performing and more ornamental than functional. Maintenance had become a major faff and was making fish keeping a massive chore for me.
This Oase Pontec PondoClear Set 4000 kit is a total game changer for me! It was a very good price, is well made, works very well, is exceptionally easy to use and only has one power lead to worry about. Perfect! I can feel my joy of fish keeping being restored! :)
As other reviewers have mentioned you might want to adapt the outflow (although it does work perfectly well without any alterations - it all depends on where you want to put the box in relation to your type of pond, etc., so it's always best to plan ahead). We found a good quick fix was to use a length of (clean) gutter pipe with an angle cut in the far end to allow water to flow out sideways, then wedged in place to act as a slide for the water flow. That worked perfectly.
As a more permanent and aesthetically pleasing solution I've ordered a 2in rubber adaptor, some PVC pipe and an angle joint and I'll be building my own outflow pipe (I'm a novice but I'll give it a go) so I can then direct the outflow of water exactly where I want it in the pond.
The pump works very well and definitely does it's job. The UV indicator light shows on the side of the unit and is unobtrusive but visible. I found that using a clean (and previously unused) turkey baster works really well at sucking up and removing any debris that might initially get sucked into and stuck around the holes on the case of the pump. Another household item repurposed for fish keeping that makes soooo much life easier! ;)
This Oase Pontec PondoClear Set 4000 kit cleared our transfered pond (about a third of the old "clean" water from the old pond topped up with rain water plus the pebble substrate (which we cleaned off as much as we could in pond water but that still had quite a bit of debris mixed in with it). Initially, the water looked stirred up and rather soupy but within 12hrs with this new filter kit it was clear. I'm very impressed by that!
Personal choice: I've added some additional different media types to the filter box (via a small net bag) and removed a couple of the bio "balls" to accommodate. I've also added a good dose of Evolution Aqua Pure+ Filter Start Gel to the new filter foams plus some of the previously cultured sponge filter media from the old in-pond filter in order to help the friendly bacteria establish.
Ultimately, my fish and water parameters will always be the determining factor. My fish look very happy in their new home with their new filtration system and the water parameters are almost spot on already (just some minor tweaks required while the bacteria load builds up).
All in all, I am very happy with this Oase Pontec PondoClear Set 4000 kit and would definitely recommend it to anyone else thinking of buying.

ideal kit
There is one issue with this product and that is the outlet ,there is just a hole in the filter and you have to find something to fit in the hole to let the water run into your pond .I found that solvent weld 1 1/2 pipe fitted perfect .Now to the good points so easy to put together and the pump is big and powerful the filter is easy to clean and very effective ,the pond I connected it to was in fact more pea soup than water ,so much so that I had to clean the filter daily and it is now slowly but surely starting to look clearer I still have a long way to go but it looks like this filter is up to the task .Read full review
