Works for open topped barrels too
Allows electrical heat wires in the downspout. Only a fourth of the water gets diverted unless you add a deflector - cut from the bottom of a plastic bottle - inside your diverter. Sand or file the inside of the top half of the diverter so it slides easier. Cut a six or seven inch piece out of your downspout. Instructions don't tell you how but this works for open topped barrels too: Locate the diverter no higher than your high water level; Use a 90 degree, 1 1/4 inch nipple, threaded on one end; Use a 1 1/4 inch hole saw, then screw the nipple into the barrel lower than the diverter. Good and Bad
Bad first; debris tends to find its way into the system and clog it up. This requires you to remove the system from your gutter, and clean out the inner channel. Cleaning is required at least three times a year.

This is intended for 2x3 inch downspout, but I used it on a 3x4 inch by 1) removing the top piece 2) fitting the downspout into the main body 3) fitting the former top piece into the remaining downspout and attaching with screws to the bottom of the main body - the top will fit around the bottom. You may want to use sealant whether you use 2x3 or 3x4, as water will come out around the perimeter (just above the brand name) during a heavy downpour when the barrel is full.
The supplied hose for the barrel is not the best quality. Even after leaving it in the sun for a couple of days it still was collapsed in places from being in the box. I used about 3 inches of it as a sleeve and attached 3/4 PVC to run to the barrel. The product works great! When the barrel is full, it simply fills up the line and then overflows into the remaining downspout. Place a screen in the gutter at the downspout to block debris, and you have a closed rain collection system in about 30 minutes!Read full review

fixed my 2 downspout problem
i had a barrel set up but had 2 downspouts a half one for summer when i was using the system and a full downspout for the winter,this little gem eliminates me changing them out all the time , i just connect or disconnect the hose as needed, the little plug however could have been a better quality or could have been a screw cap, perhaps they will make a better one in the future Read full review

Does the Job
